I Dream of Jeannie’s Barbara Eden Details Tragic Family Life In Memoir
She played the sexy, gorgeous genie opposite Larry Hagman in the famed sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie,” but in real life Barbara Eden, now 75, endured heartbreaking tragedy. She has been married three times and pregnant three times. The first ended in miscarriage and the third ended in a still birth six weeks before her due date. Her second pregnancy resulted in a son, Matthew, born in August 1965, who tragically died of a drug overdose at age 35.
In the book called “Jeannie Out of the Bottle,” Eden writes that Matthew started smoking pot at 10, then began shooting heroin. He eventually died on June 25, 2001, from a drug overdose. The memoir also discusses her two failed marriages (she is still married to her third husband), the emotional breakdown she suffered and back stories about the “I Dream of Jeannie” days.
“Like Jeannie, I’ve been bottled up long enough — it’s time for me to pop the cork and talk about the amazing people I’ve been fortunate enough to meet along the way, and the highs and lows of my everyday living,” Eden said in a statement.
