Tiffany Feder-Cohen: Lindsay Lohan’s New Lawyer
Celebrity lawyer (and mom!) Shawn Chapman Holley is no longer representing celebrity basket-case Lindsay Lohan. So who’s taking Holley’s place? Lawyer Tiffany Feder-Cohen, a young non-celeb attorney who specializes in criminal and immigration defense. Yes, Lohan has replaced an experienced mother figure with a near-peer. This may be a sign that Lindsay’s not quite ready to grow up (as if her crude fingernails weren’t sign enough?), or it could be a confirmation that sometimes a smart youth is the best person for the job. So who’s the newbie lawyer?
Lucky for us, unlike Holley (pictured with Lohan, at left), Tiffany Feder-Cohen has a Facebook page. And a Linked-In page. And yup, she’s on Twitter.
Tiffany Feder-Cohen graduated from U.C.L.A. in 1998 Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in History and Philosophy. She likely graduated from law school in 2006, since that’s the year she started her post-grad clerk position. So yes, she’s smart.
According to her Facebook page, she’s a fan of swimmer Michael Phelps, Hudson river airplane hero Captain C.B. Sully Sullenberger, the Minnesota Vikings, Coldplay, the Dave Matthews Band, Weeds (hello, lawyer?), Californication, and the original Grease movie. A client posted this review on the Facebook page for Feder-Cohen’s law practice:
“Firstly, for all of you people out there that dont know who this fantastic lady is, you had better get to know her quick. She is truly THE person that can get things done! Thank you for all the hard work and all you did to help me. I will forever be indebt with you. God bless you in all you do, and wishing you a succesful career!”
As for Twitter, she joined last September but has barely posted. Earlier today, she had only 14 followers, but the number is slowly growing. She follows 23 people, including Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, Deepak Chopra, Brooke Burke, and Elizabeth Taylor.
Will she be a good fit for LiLo? We’ll be watching.

TFC graduated the “University of West Los Angeles Law School.” If she graduated law school in 2006, why didn’t she get admitted to the bar in 2009? Check UWLA’s pass rates.

Marcy commented on Jul 08 10 at 5:22 pmUniversity of West Los Angeles Law School is not even accredited by the American Bar Association. And a gmail address for her professional e-mail? Classy.
just Frank commented on Jul 08 10 at 6:21 pmSmart, nah. A lawyer with a gmail (domain) account is neither smart or does not get much work.
If she gets LiLo off then I would change my mind.
Anonymous commented on Jul 08 10 at 6:38 pmTFC likely failed the bar multiple times, so I agree that she’s not very smart. Her law school is not even ABA approved, which means she can only practice in CA. I graduated from an ABA approved law school in 2006, was admitted to the NJ bar in 2006, the NY bar in 2007 and the CA bar in 2008, but I certainly would not feel like I could follow in the footsteps of Shawn Chapman-Holley or Blair Berk (Lindsay’s previous attorney).
Joe commented on Jul 08 10 at 9:57 pmTo go from Blair Berk to Shawn Chapman-Holley to a scrub like TFC, is like Lindsay’s life. She’s fallen… HARD.
TFC is hardly “smart.” Graduating from UCLA in History is the highlight of her education, and it’s not even impressive. To have to go to a shitty, non-ABA accredited law school that advertises via a banner off of the 405 freeway and failing the bar multiple times is absolutely laughable.
I bet Lindsay couldn’t find a credible male attorney to barter with (you know what services she’ll offer), so TFC offered her services gratis so that she can gain some publicity to her bleak-appearing career.
Charles commented on Jul 08 10 at 11:53 pmi’ve practiced business and tax law for over 10 years. graduated honors from georgetown. clients in 10 different time zones. i’m very busy.
to frank – while i have a url for my law firm and separate email, i use a gmail account throughout the day because it works much better with an iphone. the fact that i use a gmail does not reflect one way or another on my intelligence or the size of my practice. if you are good…clients don’t care about such things.
also, to all – looks like she passed the bar in CA. therefore, she is entitled to practice law in CA. i’ve met many great attorney from “lower-tier” schools – and even non-ABA approved schools. many people because of financial or family reasons can’t afford to pay or move somewhere to attend “better” schools. they still turn out to be very skilled advocates. i wish her the best.
wendy commented on Jul 09 10 at 12:55 amI think people are just grumpy and jealous that she’s lindsay’s lawyer, sheesh, she paseed the bar she passed the bar which is a hard exam, doesn’t matter where she graduated from
Christine commented on Jul 09 10 at 1:58 amAt first I was skeptical about her amount of experience given she was admitted less that a year ago, but maybe she’s really impressive in person. Just because it took her 3 years to pass doesn’t mean she failed multiple times; maybe she’s been traveling, getting married, having kids, doing charity work, etc. Besides, it IS just a probation violation, those cases are give to public defenders in their first year of practice. All that said, I’m watching to see what happens.
genius commented on Jul 09 10 at 7:52 amlindsay would be wise to go pro-se. she knows best.
Anonymous commented on Jul 09 10 at 10:44 amThe 3 years it took for TFC to pass certainly means she failed multiple times. Most law school grads take the bar immediately. The longer you wait, the harder it is. If she graduated in May 2006, she likely took the bar in July 06, February 07, July 07, February 08, July 08, February 09 and July 09. I planned my wedding while studying for the July 06 NY and NJ bars, which I was fortunate enough to pass the first time. I don’t know what TFC’s story is, but there is no doubt she is a huge step down from Blair and Shawn. Lindsay wants TFC to file an appeal. Appellate work is not like everyday law, so it’s best to be done by an attorney with appellate experience.
Richard commented on Jul 11 10 at 10:03 amDesperate times call for desperate measures.
This new legal maneuver is likely an attempt to earn her a ‘contempt of court’ now, resulting in a mistrial Lindsay believes will either buy her some time to get the sentence appealed and/or greatly reduced. Neither of which takes an expensive, talented high-celeb attorney. She might be a little smarter than she’s letting on, or we all think… As for her articulate notes, first off, she wrote her court notes in a completely slanted fashion (displaying even her contempt at even conforming to a simple, normal notepad with the lines already printed there to help her, had she actually written them prior to court, which she obviously did not); she was fully aware that by placing her notes, text side out, she was making some sort of statement to the court. Perhaps her ‘crypted’ nails and the ‘accidental’ flashing of her personal notes, broadcast to the judge along with her lovely, middle-fingered ‘FU’ will actually be her saving grace for a retrial somehow, in that judicial California mess of a court system. She was fully aware, I am relatively certain, that her ‘messages’ be ‘flashed’ since the last, largest font text that she penned was ‘TMZ is streaming video LIVE’, something she had no doubt obviously been made aware of and had little to absolutely no reason to end her notes with such an visible addendum, unless it was staged for some reason previously.
No, I think she’s about to try to surprise everyone. After all, she is friends with the best-known other ‘celeb girls’ who now know the legal loopholes intimately themselves and will be assuredly putting this case under a magnifying glass, in a last-ditch effort to undo what has been done.
The only big problem here is that Lindsay, I’m sure feels as if she’s fighting for her life right now to get out of it all, but unfortunately that very viewpoint may be the exact thing that we soon later witness as her ultimate demise of poor choices. Or, more hopefully, she’ll do as I did. Which is whatever it takes to get both the monkey AND the unpleasant stigma, off of your back.

(I can say all of this with the full expertise of one highly manipulative, prior to-the-bottom-of-every-bottle (… and thank God, as I know Him, now EX-abuser) escaping more DUI jail or prison time, car breathalyzer blowers, ankle SCRAMS or GPS monitors, than all three girls combined), with all of their wealth and high-powered attorneys. But, I really DID want help out of the quagmire and I don’t think that Lindsay fully comprehends how her behavior will affect everything about here in the big picture, if she ever gets to see it. I’m lucky as Hell but statistically, many never make it back.
Artist commented on Jul 11 10 at 11:58 amJust so you know, over 50% of those who finish law school do not practice law. Many end up in government work which does not require that you have a law license to work or other industries.
amir commented on Jul 13 10 at 9:02 pmWow. what a bunch of jealous people. Why do you care so much who LiLo lawyer is? Are you upset TFC got the job (and the paycheck and the fame)??? Get a life and complement TFC for a job well done.
