USA! USA! USA! That was a chant being bellowed by many an American soccer fan here, there and everywhere. The team advanced in the World Cup after an “epic goal” against the Algeria team. This brings the USA team up to first place in Group C, the best a USA team has done since 1930.

This isn’t just team work, in the case of Team USA it’s a family affair…The coach of the team is Bob Bradley and his son Michael Bradley just happens to be on the team. Michael’s current club is the German team Borussia Mönchengladbach where he is a midfielder.  He started to train with the World Cup team back in 2006, months before his dad got the gig as head coach.

And of course there are accusations of nepotism with Michael’s rise to play on the core team. But those have been unfounded. When asked what it was like to be coached by his dad Michael said, “He’s my dad – it is what it is. The stuff that has been written or said – I don’t have any time for that. To me, the most important thing is and has always been to have the respect of my team-mates and the coaching staff.” And Michael relies on his dad to give him an honest opinion on his playing and to help keep him grounded.
