Details On Angelina’s Trip To Haiti For World Refugee Day
Mother and amazing role model Angelina Jolie went to Haiti this past week for World Refugee Day. Most of her time was spent at SOS Children’s Village in Haiti, which works to reunite children with their families.
Angie had visited the site before in February. The camp’s children greeted Angie her with a song in Creole and were excited to see her again. What kid wouldn’t be pumped for her arrival? She gave out toys!
“That is why I like to visit and support the SOS Children’s Villages in the world [...] because I have seen that the children are growing up in a safe and loving environment,” she said of her trip.
Angie also toured the SOS “Global Village Shelters” at the SOS-Santo site. The temporary spaces are made of polypropylene materials, are quickly installed and can fit 8 children each with a total of 300 getting this type of housing.
She also met with President Preval, current and former Government of Haiti Ministers, Haitian Judges and lawyers, U.S. State Department officials, and other NGOs regarding child protection in Haiti and held a round table discussion with UNHCR, SOS Children’s Villages, UNICEF, Partners in Health and PRODEV.
Over the past few months, 160 children who were temporarily in SOS care have been reunited with their families. They are beneficiaries of the SOS Family Strengthening Program that provides food and counseling assistance to 10,000 people daily.
