EXCLUSIVE: Joel Madden Talks Kids, Nicole Richie As Supermom & The Challenges Of Fatherhood
Joel Madden played Dockers and Esquire’s ‘Khaki’s Make the Man,’ fundraiser event celebrating Father’s Day in New York yesterday. Famecrawler caught up with the star DJ and Good Charlotte band member to get the scoop on his fiance Nicole Richie and their daughter Harlow and son Sparrow.
Joel will be on the road this Sunday so won’t be celebrating Father’s Day with his kids, but he did make it home a few days ago. His favorite gifts from his kids? “Whenever they make me anything,” he tells us. “My daughter is coloring stuff, so when she colors it’s always my favorite. I would take that over anything.”
And his biggest parenting challenge? Like most dads, it’s time. “Time. Getting time. I work a lot. I’m a little bit of a workaholic. Luckily, their mother is amazing. She’s supermom. She makes it possible for me to do everything I do. Without her I couldn’t do anything. There’s never enough time for me to spend with my kids. If I could, I’d spend every second with them.”
When they do get to spend time together, their favorite activities are playing, coloring, dancing, singing, and “meal time, like family dinners or family breakfast, is always great.”
Joel and Nicole are tying the knot, but haven’t confirmed any details. When asked how wedding plans were going, he told us “We’re not big on planing. Obviously, a wedding is something you have to plan, but we’re taking it at our own speed.”
