Andrew Koppel’s Autopsy Report: Alcohol & Drugs
Ted Koppel is one step closer to closure over the loss of his son, Andrew Koppel, late last month. Today the medical examiner’s office released its post-autopsy report on Andrew Koppel’s death, and the report deems the death an accidental drug and alcohol overdose. The details:
According to the Associated Press, the cause of death was “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of alcohol; heroin; cocaine; diazepam, the generic form of the painkiller Valium; and Levamisole, a drug used to cut other drugs.” Andrew had passed out and died in an apartment after spending the night drinking in New York with a man he’d met that day in a bar.
Andrew had one daughter with his partner, photographer Ilona Lieberman, and at the time of his death they were expecting a second child. Andrew was “a brilliant, caring man, whose loss we will mourn for the rest of our lives,” his family said in a statement after his death.
