Should Tom and Katie Really Raise Suri Cruise in New York?
We’ve all seen pictures of Suri Cruise out and about in the city—eating ice cream cones, carrying her stuffed elephant, wearing high heels and stunning party dresses. But check out this photo of Suri leaving her home last night, in her dad’s arms. It’s a rare glimpse of what Suri looks out upon, day in and day out, and its a little frightening. While the rest of us are seeing her, she is seeing this. And I can’t help but wonder—should Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes rethink their decision to raise Suri here, in the midst of all this?
The fact of the matter is that the paparazzi are a fact of life. Since Tom and Katie are one of the most famous couples on the planet—a notoriety, it should be said, that they absolutely courted— they are always going to have an issue with this. But it is also true that New York is ill-equipped, in a lot of ways, to handle this type of attention. If Suri lived in Los Angeles, or in a residential suburb with an attached garage, she could just get into a car in the comfort of her own home, and avoid some of this.
Moreover, it should be said, there are other choices. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis chose to raises their girls far from the bright lights of Hollywood, in Idaho. Others have done the same. Should Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes consider raising Suri elsewhere? What would you do?

pk commented on May 26 10 at 1:13 pmSuri and Brangelina’s kids suffer from the same affliction. Their parents.
When they want to be photographed in LA (or anywhere else for that matter, like NY, Venice…), they are. When they don’t want you to see them or their kids, they all disappear. As someone on another blog pointed out, it’s unlikely the “twins” were kept in a tower for a year. They were probably too fussy, cried too much and were overall too unmanageable to make a nice picture (also notice we rarely see their nannies.)
I don’t know what’s going on in this particular set of shots, but dollars to doughnuts we’re seeing what we’re supposed to see. Someone else noted that Depp who is the most popular actor on the planet, lives much of the year in LA, traveling back and forth to France. But how often do we see HIS kids compared to Brangelina’s and TomKat’s?
The problem isn’t the location, it’s the parents.
Mel commented on May 26 10 at 7:18 pmI live in Telluride, CO, and I’m pretty sure that Tom still owns a house here. They should just move here permanently and raise the kids here. It’s a mountain town and pretty quiet. New York and LA are not good places for celebrities to raise their kids.
Edamommy commented on May 26 10 at 10:16 pmIt speaks volumes that Tom Cruise is grinning for the cameras… not trying to shield Suri… but then, I think in Scientology fame is a major goal, so for him, this is a good situation. He probably doesn’t see this as negative. Plus, she’s been raised with this and likely doesn’t know any differently… I can’t imagine how exhausting and frightening it would be to live in such a public way. How does everyone know where they’re going to be? Do they just camp out and wait outside the home for an appearance? That’s really sad.
cindy commented on Jun 03 10 at 12:26 amhmmmm … can’t help but notice that big ass engagement/wedding ring on K’s finger but Mr. Cruise’s left ring finger is empty … Scientology thing?

Alivia commented on Jun 04 10 at 11:02 pmThey are not committing child abuse. They can raise their daughter however they wish. And who are you to judge?
Jack Rey commented on Jun 06 10 at 11:11 pmTom and Katie both work. They bring Suri along. They want to be near her. See the logic in that?
That is the only reason Suri is in New York. If Suri were to grow up cloistered she would be away from her parents.
Are you suggesting this would be the thing to do?
