Bethenny Frankel: Breastfeeding “Emotional” and “Traumatic”

Bethenny Frankel 300x279 Bethenny Frankel: Breastfeeding Emotional and TraumaticNew mom Bethenny Frankel is voicing what so many new mothers find out shortly after their babies are born: breastfeeding can be really, really hard.  Via Twitter, she called the process of nursing baby girl Bryn “emotional” and “traumatic” which is exactly how I felt when I gave nursing my twins a go — and then finally gave up. (Perhaps since Frankel is currently feeling emotional this would be a good time for Kelly Bensimon to reinvigorate the “cook” vs. “chef” debate.)

Unlike many new moms, however, and perhaps in the TMI category, Frankel also reveals that she is ready for a little post-partum action.

“I can’t wait to do it again! 4 weeks more! Stitches are healing!” she over-shared. Maybe by “do it again” she means yoga?  Regardless, if you are a new mom having trouble breastfeeding, you are not alone!

This is a great time for her to contact a lactation specialist. Hospitals, La Leche League and physicians may be able to recommend one to help her through the “trauma.” :)

Her tweet was in response to someone else talking about her workout DVD…she meant working out, not “it”.

do you not link to sources for your information?

The source is Bethenny’s Twitter. Heather — you’re right! I just reread that Tweet and it is about working out. So I guess the “yoga or something” was closer than my interpretation of doing it. Thanks!

Just love Bethenny and I am so happy for her and Jason on little Bryn. Can’t wait to see her new show and see her get away from all the drama on HWONY.

For those who actually want to nurse twins (or a singletone), it CAN be done, and it does not have to be traumatic. The right help and resources are required for any successful parenting endeavor. Here’s a post from a LLL leader and mother of twins who nursed into toddlerhood without a drop of formula: http://thefeministbreeder.com/best-laid-plans-strategies-for-success-in-breastfeeding-your-twins/

Definitely getting the right support, and taking it one day at a time, if not one feed a time, will be one of the best investments a new mother could ever make. I basically hate it for the first few weeks, and then by 7-8 weeks just love it. That’s when things more settle down anyway, and the baby starts to interact more. It is worth the investment time.
