INFphoto 1268061 e1274320012341 Gossip Girl Blake Lively is a Cool AuntI think I’m a cool aunt. I buy cool toys for the kids in my life. I play with them. I know the names of their friends, their favorite sports teams and pop stars, and I’m always down for a rowdy game of good guys vs. bad guys.

But Blake Lively’s got me on the superhero thing.

It seems the Gossip Girl star, who will be playing villain Star Sapphire in this fall’s Green Lantern movie got special aerial and combat training from Cirque du Soleil in order to shape up for the part. That’s just awesome. And the 22-year old, who is the youngest of five siblings was not blind to the biggest perk of the job: how her comic-book character role helps her score points with her nieces and nephews.
“All I want is to be a hero to my nephews and nieces. I’m going to be the coolest aunt ever,” Lively told Showbiz Spy. “Our director likes it real – the fights close and dirty. I’m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around.” I’ll say it again: awesome. And what a great motivating factor! It’s funny, as a mom, being cool isn’t something that crosses my mind a lot, since I’m too busy trying to keep my kids from killing each other, or teaching them to use the potty. But being the cool grown-up to other people’s kids? That’s the best.

So I’ll have to start working on my fun-aunt game so I can keep up with Lively. How many hours of workout tapes in my living room do you think it will take to put me in battling superheroes shape? I’m thinking the kids I know may be in college before I get there, but it’s worth a shot.
