Girls Too Sexy for 7 Year Olds? The Single Ladies Girls Are Back and So Are Their Boyfriends

I don’t know about you, but I was hoping that the footage of that young dance troop shakin’, shimmin’ and getting’ down to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” was just a fluke. A one time performance that was a unique event in its’ saucy and salacious nature. But no, these young girls have gotten raunchy with their routines before. This time with …a dance to a cover of ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’.

The girls, yet again, are dancing to a song that isn’t age appropriate. What seven-year-old has a boyfriend? And what seven-year-olds are worried about their reputation? The dance features similar moves that were in the ‘Single Ladies’ video. Pelvic thrusts, off the hook shaking and yes, totally inappropriate outfits. This time the girls wore neon hued glitter two-piece outfits with thigh high stockings.  The outfits are much more like what would be worn in a traveling production of ‘Sweet Charity’ than for a trio of seven-year-olds. The parents and representatives of the dance competition continue to say that the girls aren’t doing anything provocative but the marriage of the outfits, the song choices and the moves aren’t a good fit for such young dancers. There are surely other ways, other songs, and other outfits that could highlight their amazing talents.

Check it out below. Do you think it’s totally un-age appropriate or just part of the dance competition culture?

The media cracks me up. Let’s put a camera in all the media peoples lives (including yours Sunny) and see what “shocking and news worthy” events we uncover. Get over it. This is nothing more than talented girls performing technical dance movements that they’ve learned since age 3-4. They aren’t 7, they aren’t a year out of kindergarten. They are “gate” straight “A” students that are driven and focused. Leave ‘em alone and lets focus on real “news”

I think the media is way overblowing this and picking on these kids because they are good. I would like to see what the outfits of their competitors look like and what moves are in their routines. I suspect that this is just dance culture, but I’m not that familiar, so it would be interesting to see some comparison between this routine and, say, the second place routine.

Good point. All of this “news” is probably coming from a losing dance studio. The studio these kids dance at is very prominent and has been in business for 20+ years. They are very well respected in the competitive dance world and apparently have NEVER been disqualified for a dance (judges have the ability to DQ a dance for inappropriate costumes and/or choreography).

I think Sunny does have a valid point, the combination of it all was a little overboard for this age group, & yes she does give the girls credit on the talent but simply points out the obvious. Why the competition would be involved here is not the subject here, it’s simply the hard-core Brittany Spears moves & thigh high stockings that are in question. My 5 year old has danced since the age of 18 months & recently joined jazz and if I ever felt that recital moves were questionable I would definitely not allow her to dance in such a performance. As for the attire, our studio has thus far not allowed bare midriffs for pre-teens (a nude leotard or mesh would have been more appropriate), the thigh highs that looked like hooker boots a definite no-no. And your right they are VERY talented but as Sunny stated their talent could be displayed with more tasteful choreography & age-appropriate music. There is plenty of young talent out there right now that have some serious rockin’ songs!

Again I want to repeat that these girls are not seven year olds. They are almost 9 years old and there is a huge shift in development between a 7 year old and a 9 year old. Also, this is as irritating as the whole pole dancing thing with the Miss America contestant (winner?). Our children grow-up very quickly now a days, it is about how you teach them to distinguish between what is appropriate and when it is appropriate! Get these things off You Tube!!!! (that is really what is inappropriate about this situation)

Sabrina commented on May 19 10 at 6:48 pm

I guess I’m the only one so far that agrees with the article. This is outrageous on so many levels and sends those children the wrong message.

Signed,

An adult who survived 10 plus years training to be a professional dancer, and NEVER dressed like that or learned those moves as a child.

Elisabeth@YCCII commented on May 19 10 at 6:50 pm

So they’re not seven. If they are almost nine, that means they are EIGHT YEARS OLD. That puts them in the second or third grade.

Elisabeth@YCCII commented on May 19 10 at 6:53 pm

These girls are talented – BUT – some of those dance moves look like they are out of a strip club. If they are 7 or 9 or 14 these moves are not appropriate. Yes, kids are growing up fast – but I refuse to just accept the sexualizing of young girls as “dance culture” or just the way things are.

Megan commented on May 19 10 at 8:42 pm

They are pretty good dancers for their age I dont see it as sexualizing children unless you look at children in a sexual way. The down side is there is a lot of pervs out there, and they should be shot.

Who made up the word “un-age appropriate”? How about “age-inappropriate”?

Bruna commented on May 20 10 at 8:44 pm

Outrageous. The day would never come that I would allow my YOUNG 8 or 9 year old daughter to be intentionally dressed like a whore and be encouraged to gyrate provocatively and sexually. I hope these “mothers” (and in their case, I use the term loosely) and comfortable with the idea that, in all likelihood, their were a host of pedifiles and sexual predators masturbating to their little girl’s performanace. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. It wasn’t cute. It wasn’t adorable. It was another shining example of this country’s morals circling the toilet bowl.

Marc commented on May 21 10 at 1:37 am

I apologize for the typos, but I was and am truly disgusted with adults who find this acceptable.

Marc commented on May 21 10 at 1:43 am

I guess Rick and Kristi are probably parents of the kids in question because who else is so idiotic to post the way they did, in total support of the turning of little girls into sex objects. The pedos were viewing this, free, and getting their jollies, adding to it the fact that these girls were dancing very sexually. The parents who have gone on TV with their names better have security in the chance that one of the pervs out there doesn’t decide to come and NAB one of these “single ladies” for himself. The “parents” should be sterilized and their children should be taken off them. The dance instructor who is teaching young girls these moves should be jailed. What the hell is wrong with people? If you are doing THIS at age 8, what’s next????
I agree with MARC above, anyone who supports this, especially an adult, is truly despicable.
