100130TC1 BOWEN B GR 01 JPG e1274198038296 Modern Family Actress Julie Bowen Can Double Breastfeed!Modern Family’s Julie Bowen went on George Lopez last night and proved that she may be the world’s champion uber-boober. It’s a picture of her double-breastfeeding her twin sons, John and Gus, who are now 1.

On behalf of the breastfeeding mothers on the planet, my hat is off to Bowen. I find breastfeeding one baby pushes my level of coordination to the absolute limit. That she can do two at once pretty must makes her the most talented woman on the planet.

And seriously? I’d keep that photo in my wallet forever. When my kids misbehaved, I’d just whip the picture out. See what I did for you!! When they broke curfew. Do you see the sacrifices I made!! When they tell me to just drop them off down the street from the party because getting a ride from their mother is embarrassing. You want to see embarrassing? I spent a full year practically topless!

And that’s nothing compared to how I’d use it against my husband. You say you had a hard day with the kids? Well, you want to see hard?

Yup, that picture would come in mighty handy, for a very long time.
Other moms of multiples out there – have you breastfed two kids at once? And do other moms see this as the same badge of honor that I do?

Not just moms of multiples nurse 2 at once, it’s called tandem nursing! I will be nursing my almost 2 year old toddler and my newborn come August, and yeah it will most likely take a little coordination to maneuver. I’ve known several moms who have done it though, so it can’t be that hard!

Double breastfeeding–lol. Yea it is called tandem nursing. I currently nurse my nearly 3 year old and my 7 week old. “double” nursing is much more common than most expect. Child-led weaning is what many parents practice nowadays, and tend to be nursing more than one because of it.

I want to know why news outlets aren’t running the photo. Do they think it’s obscene or something?

I’m a tandem nurser, too. And I’ve done it in public without showing anything (that one surprised even me, LOL!). It’s awesome that she’s nursing her twins! w00t! More moms should be aware that not only can you nurse twins, but triplets, etc. as well (just not all at once ;) and most tandem nursing moms don’t nurse both at once every time). There was even a mom on Oprah who breastfed her quintuplets. THAT woman get the uber-boober medal in my book ;)

It’s not coordination as much as patience that it takes, btw ;)

Actually, tandem nursing is the art of breastfeeding two children of different ages during the same time period, so this doesn’t apply to twins.

As a mom to twins, I must say it’s not as easy as it looks because with twins, they don’t have the coordination/skill/strength that older babies do. I did it a few times but found it to be difficult as the breasts were differing in milk supply and my babies were different in how they wanted to be held while nursing. It’s pretty much football style with teeny ones. I wish it’d been easier because it would’ve saved a lot more time but in the end I think we all end up doing what works best for the babies. Hats off to Julie for promoting bfeeding! And yes, why no photo?

As an LC who works with many moms of multiples, thanks for making BF twins normal! It can be difficult, but if your body births two, it can feed two. I tandem nurse my 3 and 1 year old, and it can be tricky to find a comfy way for them to nurse together. BBut when they hold hands and look up at me it makes it all worth while!

I nursed my twin boys together all over the place – stores, restaurants, parks, airports, even on the airplane a few times. I’ll take that medal, thanks. I earned it.
