Al Gore’s New Mansion: What Message Does This Send Kids About Global Warming?
Pictured is Former Vice President Al Gore’s new $9 million ocean-view villa property in Montecito, Calif., which kind of makes me want to ask “How ’bout that ‘carbon footprint,’ Al?” What message does this send to our kids about the seriousness of global warming when its most visible activist talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk? It says to our kids, “Do as I say, not as I do!” And I do enough of that on my own without Al Gore piling it on.
Gore’s book has been adapted for the youth audience. From his web site: “‘An Inconvenient Truth – Adapted for A New Generation: An Inconvenient Truth adapted for the most important audience of all: today’s youth, who have no choice but to confront the climate crisis head-on.’”
Here’s the inconvenient truth: The two-story Italian-esque villa boasts five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and six fireplaces. Complete with high ceilings, a wine cellar, terraces, and an exquisite outdoor pool, the property itself is 1.5 acres. Other Montecito inhabitants include talk show giant Oprah Winfrey, Michael Douglas, Christopher Lloyd, and golfer Fred Couples. Another view of the mansion next. What do you think — Is Al Gore living his global warming message?

Al Gore's New Mansion: What Message Does This Send Kids About Global Warming? « carboneutralnow commented on May 14 10 at 12:21 pmDave C commented on May 13 10 at 1:33 pm“I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people who tell me it’s a crisis start acting like it’s a crisis”
Mama Bear commented on May 13 10 at 2:50 pmOf course not! One little jaunt in a private airplane wipes out any “green savings” from solar panels, or the “water saver” toilet in the maid’s quarters. If Mr. Gore actually walked the walk… instead Gore enjoys luxury that most of us can only dream about.
Uncle Roger commented on May 13 10 at 2:52 pmLet’s see… we’re talking about a former US Vice President who is (presumably) still actively working. Chances are, he’s got his office in there somewhere. He’s probably going to want space for the secret service guys hanging around (ever see Guarding Tess?) and, if he’s still being all former-vp-ish, he may have important visitors that he’d like to put up rather than sending them off to the local motel 6. While 5 bedrooms would be outrageous here in San Francisco, for most of the country it’s just a big family house. Nine bathrooms does seem excessive, but I’ll be a couple of them are in that there poolhouse.
Now, I don’t blame the man for wanting a pool; if I had his money I certainly would. As for 1.5 acres, that’s about 10 times the size of my (big for SF) lot, but not overly impressive anywhere else. And isn’t it better to have 1.5ac of greenery than 1.5ac of factories or apartment buildings?
Let me ask this — what about all those big rigs running around the freeways of America? I’ll bet they get only a couple miles per gallon, at best. Why don’t we ban them? Oh, because they serve a purpose for which the low mpg is acceptable? Similarly, can a big house, if it also serves as office and hotel, not justify a larger-than-average footprint?
Mama Bear commented on May 13 10 at 3:02 pmPersonally, I would love to be able to not pay electric bill (mo. average $250.00) or heat (yrly average $2500.) So that would be my incentive to use alternative methods for energy needs. I would love to have an electric car like the EV1- but politics and oil company shareholders made sure we do not have that alternative. I’m all for saving the money, and the planet, if the two are compatible… but politicians are just corporate puppets, so you won’t be finding any solutions from them. Look to the unemployed engineer for solutions- hopefully one who releases their idea as “open source” so it can not be discouraged by (oil) companies who sell old and out dated technologies.
po commented on May 13 10 at 7:34 pmAl Gore = hippocrite and he couldn’t give a fig about what anybody but the wealthy or his groupiesycophants think, so don’t give him free publicity.
Akiva Potok commented on May 13 10 at 9:33 pmThe ice core record demonstrates that increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere correlates to a warmer planetary climate. The last time the planet had this much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere dinosaurs roamed the earth. I don’t care if Al Gore is fat, skinny, bearded, bald, hypocritical, greedy, pragmatic, or secretely an arch-Republican polygamist. High carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere causes the oceans and atmosphere to warm. The size of Al Gore’s … ego doesn’t change that.
Erik Szpyra commented on May 14 10 at 2:54 pmMaybe he cares so much about the enviroment that he is going to buy all the land he can to save us from ourselves. This ‘villa’ is just the begining of Goreland
Tracie commented on May 14 10 at 4:55 pmDo as I say, not as I do! I wonder if he’s composting, using reuseable bags, cloth napkins, etc. OR if it’s all just talk?
Barry commented on May 30 10 at 8:14 amGore does not care about global warming or the enviroment. The only “green” thats importnat to him is whats in his wallet. The global warming hoaks is nothing more than a huge tax increase. Don’t be a tool for these crooks.
Dear Jonny commented on Jun 02 10 at 6:30 pmWas this the cause of their breakup? Or maybe the Gore’s are just pretending to be separated so Al cannot be linked to this energy hog of a house. Tipper can live there and waste all the energy she wants,
Meme commented on Oct 02 10 at 8:38 amI guess I don’t really care what message it sends to other peoples kids. The people who laid down to have them can raise them and instill what ever values they wish.
GarandFan commented on Jun 19 11 at 1:25 pmHate to rain on Uncle Rodger’s parade, but ex-VP’s only get 6 months of protection after they leave office. The protection may be extended on orders of the sitting President. And Barry hasn’t authorized it for Al.
