Is Collin Gosselin Hiding From Kate Gosselin’s Cameras?
It appears that not all of Kate Gosselin’s kids are eager to continue their stint as America’s First Family of reality TV.
Just yesterday, Kate took the eight out to dinner at Austin’s restaurant in Reading, Pennsylvania, an outing that was filmed for a segment on Kate’s new show, ‘Twist of Kate.’ For the most part, her kids seemed to enjoy splashing in the rain. But not Collin Gosselin, one of Kate’s sextuplets, who held his hands over his face, and darted behind one of his sisters, in an apparent attempt to hide himself from the cameras.
It is simply impossible to deny that while putting these kids on a TV show may provide for their financial needs, it ignores other important aspects of their emotional well-being—such as being able to spend time with their family without feeling under siege. I have to wonder how it eels, if you’re Kate Gosselin, to see the type of displeasure that the constant presence of cameras causes for her kids, at least some of the time. Does it make her question her decision to put them on another TV show? Does she really feel as if she has no other choice?
My quick take on this is that if that were me and I saw one of my kids reacting this way, I’d cut the cameras and bag the plans for the show. But then again, I don’t have eight mouths to feed, and her situation in life is so wildly different from mine that it is almost hard to say.
What would you do?

marcy commented on May 12 10 at 12:42 pmShe does not HAVE to do this to support her family, she does it to support an extravagant lifestyle she refuses to give up, even if it costs her children their self esteem. She can buy a smaller home, cut out the frequent tanning and hair extension maintenance, live off royalties and, like other single moms, work a regular job. She isn’t the first person to have to raise 8 children…how did everyone else do it without reality television? I would ditch the cameras too if one of my children was even remotely self conscious, but this woman will never put her kids first in that way. Money cannot buy happiness and self esteem, and these kids are paying the price for her self indulgence.
michelle commented on May 12 10 at 12:48 pmlooks like hes hiding from the rain….not the cameras
Tracey commented on May 12 10 at 1:17 pmKate > enough is enough !! Stop the “Queen” life style and be a PROPER mother to those children. You are a spoiled leach of the American public television system and an abusive control freak. Jon deserves to have his manhood back after you so blatently took it away from him in front of thousands. You DO NOT DESERVE those children. Some very loving couples would feel blessed, but not you and your phoney religion for the cameras. You are a pariah and alot of people would be happy to never hear your name again !!! Shame on you.
M commented on May 12 10 at 1:31 pmThere are many folks out there raising a large family without pimping their children out. That’s all she’s doing. Hell, she even published a book about letters written to her children. If they were private letters to her children, why not keep them private?? But no, Kate would not make any money off her 8 little paychecks that way. Poor excuse for a parent in my opinion.
karen commented on May 12 10 at 1:35 pmFirst of all, that looks more like Joel than Collin. And it looks like a grin on his face in the top picture. Did it ever occur to you that he’s playing with the cameraman? Those kids loved the crew that worked on “J&K+8.” Personally, I think he’s just clowning around with the cameraman. Oh, and by the way, Kate’s new show with the kids is NOT “Twist of Kate,” it’s “Kate Plus 8.”
Carol commented on May 12 10 at 1:38 pmIt is extremely selfish and self-serving for Kate and Jon to put their kids back on TV in any capacity. Kate made a big point in interviews about how SHE has to work to support her family – well what does that say about the kids going back to work on TV then? That they too have to support the family? Pennsylvania dept of labor determined that the kids need work permits because the show is work. They’ve just gone through a nasty very public divorce and she thinks it’s a good idea to then throw cameras in their face for a show? It appears that she only spends actual time with her kids when there’s filming going on, which in itself is sad. Otherwise she pulls out the excuse that she has to go and “work” and nannies and housekeepers take over. Extremely selfish, self-serving and, in my opinion, abusive of the kids’ emotional needs.
jfmpk commented on May 12 10 at 1:39 pmI never saw so many jealous people in my life. If the majority of you had this opportunity, all would accept. Get real!
Patricia commented on May 12 10 at 1:48 pmThey are being filmed here for a show. I hate to point this out, but it’s legal in most states for children to work in their family businesess for NO SALARY. I don’t call what the Gosselin kids are doing work – it’s not like they are slaving away on the family dairy farm or restaurant. I suppose there is something offensive about making your kids TV stars, but I also think it’s their family business.
M commented on May 12 10 at 1:51 pmIf they are not working, then why did the state require “work permits”?
URDUMB commented on May 12 10 at 1:57 pmPaps in your face is a lot different than the TLC camera crew who are like family to the kids. BIG difference. Get off Kate’s back.
Patricia commented on May 12 10 at 2:00 pmThat state did not require work permits. TLC was found to be in total compliance. They filed permits anyway, just to clear up any confusion or conflict.
Carol commented on May 12 10 at 2:08 pmThey ARE working, PA dept of labor determined. They required the permits for any new filming and if TLC did not get them, then they would have had to pay fines to the PA dept of labor.
Cheryl commented on May 12 10 at 2:13 pmPatricia, if you don’t call what the kids are doing work, do you call what Kate is doing work? She is the one who is always saying these reality shows are her job, her career, whatever. How can it be that being followed around by cameras for a reality tv show is work for Kate, but being followed around by cameras for a reality tv show is not work for the kids? Try to make some sense of that. And, yes, TLC was required to get “work” permits for the kids, so even if Kate doesn’t believe those kids are working, someone does.
Shelly commented on May 12 10 at 2:18 pmI think Kate is doing fine. These kids don’t really know anything but the canmeras. Jon on the other hand is a quiter. He started this to. Don’t act like he done nothing wrong. He is more to blame then her. He should have stayed and made it work. No finding some one else was so much easier. Them kids are all going to be fine. Their story is out there now we want to know what is going on.
Marie commented on May 12 10 at 2:36 pmI feel bad for the children. And I feel a queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach at all of the people who WANT to watch the children. It makes me wonder about their motives. It’s just sick. It’s obvious in a lot of the pictures, not just these, that Collin is uncomfortable with the cameras. If Kate wants to be on TV to make a living, fine, let her. She also has her own show and book, so does she really need to film the children? I don’t think so. And how about the dad, Jon? How about he gets his ass out there and gets a job so that his kids don’t have to work. At this point, it looks like the kids are supporting both Jon and Kate.
Patricia commented on May 12 10 at 2:54 pmTheir show was enormously popular. I doubt that all their fans are perverts, Marie. The show that is being filmed in the photo is a documentary (1 of 8) that TLC will do. “Kate Plus Eight” is not a series, if that makes you feel any better. Her new show “Twist of Kate” doesn’t include the kids – and it’s that show that will be paying the bills.
Marie commented on May 12 10 at 3:00 pmPatricia, there are 12 episodes of Kate plus 8 scheduled for the summer. That’s more than a documentary. Also, just so you don’t forget, there are a lot of people making money off the backs of these kids besides their parents. i.e., TLC, the Papparrazzi, etc. So, no, this isn’t, as you put it, the average “family business.”
And Patricia, even ONE pervert is enough for me.
Marie commented on May 12 10 at 3:04 pmPatricia – You said that Twist of Kate will be paying the bills? Then why film the kids at all? Just so people like you can watch them? Why do you feel the need to watch the kids?
dessertgirl commented on May 12 10 at 3:07 pmM – there are no more royalties for the previous two books. They are selling: Multiple Blessings at Amazon (#34,441)& Barnes & Noble – (#9781); Eight Little Faces – Amazon -(#111,305) and Barnes and Noble – (#12,428). Kate’s new book tanked from the beginning it is selling at Amazon at #1688 and Barnes and Noble at #3269. She won’t get any royalties from the new book until it sells the first printing of 400,000. So far the book sold less than 11,000 copies out of the 400,000. She only has to sell another 379,000 for Zondervan to break even. It isn’t going to happen. New books usually do their best in the first two to three week after publishing and it’s been a month already.
Marie commented on May 12 10 at 3:11 pmM – You’re exactly right. The kids ARE working and that’s exactly why the State required work permits. TLC didn’t get fined for violating that in the previous shows because the State made a deal with them to create an account for the children in return to not getting fined. That was stated in the hearing.
Patricia commented on May 12 10 at 3:16 pmI do not watch reality TV shows. I think they are STUPID, including the Gosselins’ shows. I do not, however, begrudge anyone making a viable living starring in them. And neither should you.
D commented on May 12 10 at 3:21 pmMy aunt raised 8 kids – on a farmers income and they are doing just fine! Kate needs to move out of her McMansion and she and Steve needs to find themselves a lil hut to curl up in. Jon will happily take over the raising the kids and I am willing to bet, even tho he has no money, he will do a better job at. Look at her, just look at her!!?? All hi and mighty – but underneath all that color is the same mousy brown chubby Kate Kreider…
Marie commented on May 12 10 at 3:23 pmI don’t begrudge Kate or Jon making a living, I begrudge the children having to work. They shouldn’t be supporting their parents, the parents should be supporting the kids.
LOSTINNY commented on May 12 10 at 3:43 pmI wish you people who don’t have enough of your own life to worry about would just leave Kate alone. You don’t have a clue, or you are jealous of her. I hope people around you judge you by the SAME standards. Bet you all would fall short!
Patricia commented on May 12 10 at 3:53 pmI have to say I think this whole thread is a little creepy. Not as creepy as the Duggars, but almost.
Mombsy commented on May 12 10 at 4:03 pmWe, at the SageWay Express are fully supportive of Kate Gosselin and her choice to raise her kids how she sees fit. Some of us are absolutely thrilled to be able to see those kids on TV again. Some of us love those kids and I am moving to PA to see if I could be one of those nannies. Alexis is just so adorable. Just want to eat her up!
SageTards commented on May 12 10 at 4:04 pmWE LOVE KATE. WE LOVE THE KIDS. THEY ARE THE ONLY REASON WE EXIST. WE HATE THE HATERS. HOW DARE THEY TRY TO TAKE AWAY OUR ENTERTAINMENT. I WISH JON WAS DEAD.
Cheryl commented on May 12 10 at 4:06 pmThose children made it possible for Kate to live the lavish lifestyle to which she has grown accustomed. She wouldn’t have any of it if those kids hadn’t been put to work almost right after they were born. With all they’ve been through in the last year or so, they should be in counseling, not being followed around with a camera in their face. I’m sure Kate will get hers after those children are old enough to realize what she has done to them. Too bad they will be the ones to have to pay the price for their mother’s greed. She should have plenty of money in the bank right now to take care of them quite comfortably for as long as they need to be taken care of. She may have to give up some of her luxuries, but I don’t think for one minute she needs to keep having these kids filmed to put food on the table.
Ciskco commented on May 12 10 at 4:08 pmPatricia, are you a child predator?
Jenna commented on May 12 10 at 4:09 pmHe’s hiding from the rain more than the cameras. I saw him on the show. He loved being on camera. What a ham.
Ciskco commented on May 12 10 at 4:12 pmPatricia, Kids did not sign a contract. Do your kids have jobs?
NJGal commented on May 12 10 at 4:32 pmOK, let me try again. I don’t think that he’s playing with the cameraman or hiding from the rain, I think (as most that have seen the photo do) that he doesn’t want to be filmed but does not know how to verbalize this. If he were to tell kate it would probably fall on deaf ears – this is his 6 year old way of telling the cameras to go away….if I can’t see them, they can’t see me. Please recall that there was a similar photo published a couple of weeks ago where he had his jacket in front of his face. Kate needs to think about what her kids are feeling about this and stop thinking about herself.
Tupelo commented on May 12 10 at 4:56 pmThe Gosselin kids are not working. The kids on the “Brady Bunch” were: they had lines to learn, directors to follow and obey, hours of filming daily, hair and makeup… and who knows what all. Also, I doubt they had a following of perverts and neither do the Gosselins, for heaven’s sake. That is so SICK to even suggest! TLC said there will 8 or fewer of these specials. There will be 12 episodes of Twist of Kate. If you don’t like her, don’t watch them. In the meantime, kindly stop suggesting that her kids’ fans are child molestors. Sheesh!
May commented on May 12 10 at 5:35 pmHow do you know this was filmed for the show? It looks like a paparazzi pic. Why not blame them for the harassing the children? Collin could have just been keeping the rain out of his face.
Jessica commented on May 12 10 at 6:10 pmQuite frankly I’m sick of her constantly saying that she HAS to do this kind of job in order to provide for her children. She doesn’t HAVE to put her children on TV for money, she doesn’t HAVE to go on Dancing with the Stars and appear on countless entertainment shows. She’s making a choice. She got a taste of fame when her divorce with Jon got major public media coverage, and she doesn’t want to lose that taste. She can do so many things differently in her life in order to ensure that she can raise her children. She doesn’t have to put them on TV but doing that not only supports the extravagant lifestyle she wants to live, but it supports her need to be in the spotlight. I think she’s a very greedy, narcissistic woman. How many large families are doing what Kate is doing? Virtually none or we’d see them all over TLC. I’m very annoyed by Kate’s constant plea that she must go on and film with her kids. No, she doesn’t have to. She’s raised her star to the point where she can get away with being in the media, so if she wants the extravagant lifestyle she should just stick to doing her own show and at least leave the children out of the limelight for goodness sake. I’m also annoyed by the rabid Kate fans who assume that Kate ‘haters’ are jealous. Jealous of what, exactly? Being famous for absolutely no reason? Being considered as a bad mother? Bringing her children back into the public eye? I’m not steaming with jealousy here, I’m bringing up argumentative points and critiquing. That’s what the public do. We can sit behind computer screens and critique. It might not be ‘fair’ for the person we’re critiquing, but we give our two cents. I’m offering my opinion which is that Kate Gosselin is a very selfish woman, it’s all about her which is quite an unbearable quality to say the least.
Tupelo commented on May 12 10 at 6:34 pmJessica, you’re right: you’re not being jealous. Just judgmental and self-righteous. You do not know the Gosselins. Neither do I. Stop ascribing motivations to the behaviors of people you do NOT KNOW.

Tupelo commented on May 12 10 at 7:15 pmTracey one suggestion: spell check. This site does it for you. Pay attention to when it underlines a word you type. (It means you spelled it wrong – right click on it for spelling suggestions). You spell like a 3rd grader.
Tupelo commented on May 12 10 at 7:19 pmMay – It says in the story above they were being filmed for a show; i.e., not being photographed by paparazzi.
Kirsten commented on May 12 10 at 7:30 pmThis site has a lot more photos of Colin covering his face. I saw it yesterday and the first thing I thought was he was hiding from the cameras. http://www.gossipcenter.com/kate-gosselin/kate-gosselin-continues-sextuplet-birthday-celebrations-361245
marie commented on May 12 10 at 8:07 pmmomsby, how creepy can you get? Now I know why Kate and the kids need a bodyguard/purse hanger. I wouldn’t let you near my kids.
Granny commented on May 12 10 at 8:09 pmYou girls who complaint about those Gosselin kids working make me sick. Kids should be working. Today they are all superspoiled and learn very little that’s useful. Work is good for them. So is discipline. Not enough of that anywhere! Why in my day, six year old kids made their own beds, put away their toys every night, washed and dressed themselves, helped clean the bathroom and put dirty clothing and towels in the laundry, took out the garbage, cleared off the table, helped with the dishes. Nine years olds helped six years old siblings read, do homework, learn basic kitchen skills, ride a bike, help garden and nine years olds were great with a broom and a vaccuum cleaner and making useful things. Girls that age learned how to mend clothing and dust and polish. All 4 year olds and up had to report for duty assignments and inspections and were disciplined for negligence and sent back to redo assignments that were not done well. Older children babysat younger ones. And by 10 or 11 they had paid jobs too, like snowshovelling, grasscutting, etc. for the neighours and by 12 were babysitting for them too.
What is this world coming to! Grow up, girls! If you think the Gosselin kids shouldn’t even do this easy “work”, I hate to think of how badly behaved and spoiled your brats are.
May commented on May 12 10 at 8:29 pmTupelo, I saw that listed in the article. Babble isn’t known for it’s accuracy. No one other tabloids w/this picture stated TLC was filming, only that that they were eating out.
Not-Buying-What-Kate's-Selling commented on May 12 10 at 8:49 pmThose children are paying a terrible price to “entertain” Kate’s fans. I refuse to have any part of it.
Olsen commented on May 12 10 at 9:56 pmTupelo – Interesting you would criticize the writing of Tracey, whose spelling is just fine, and ignore the third grade writing of Kate’s fan-girl Shelly:
canmeras?
quiter?
to when she means “too”?
“Don’t act like he done nothing wrong.” How hillbilly can one get with that one?
“He is more to blame then her.” She meant “than,” right?
“No finding some one else was so much easier.” She means: “No, finding someone else…”
“Them kids are all going to be fine.” It’s like Clampbett central.Shelly
M commented on May 13 10 at 8:42 amIt appears to me that Patricia needs to get her Gosselin facts straight before she posts. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. My opinion of Kate is shall we say not a good one. Let’s face it, the kids are working, they are required by the state of PA to have “work permits”. By definition, that is working. TLC and the Gosselins were not in compliance for the many years they filmed because they did not apply for permits for their litter. These folks are nothing but child pimps who are too lazy to work for a living. And no I’m not jealous, I would not want to raise 8 more rugrats for all the tea in China. If you can’t afford to raise and pay for your kids upkeep, then it’s quite simple. You don’t need to be having them. It’s not the kids responsibility to be born with a job!!
RyanV commented on May 13 10 at 9:00 amDrive-by Internet hatred is fascinating, isn’t it? Amazing how many people seem to be gratified by it.
Patricia commented on May 13 10 at 9:44 amM,
I do have my facts straight. These children were deemed to be “working” in this context for the followig reasons (not because there was any actual WORK involved):
“An investigation by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Labor Law Compliance found that “The activity being filmed was spontaneous. However, children introduced episodes of the television show and transitions. DVDs and other merchandise were sold involving the children’s appearance. Lighting was placed in the home for the show and there was product placement in some episodes.” Because of these reasons, the children were considered to be working on the show, and the show was required to obtain work permits for the children, which it did not do. An agreement was reached that no charges would be filed immediately as long as no further violations would occur.”
Patricia commented on May 13 10 at 10:07 amI would like to raise one more point: those of you who disapprove of the Gosselin kids’ shows should be blaming TLC/Discovery, not the Gosselin parents. This network has discovered the profitability of reality TV. They are not interested in “normal” families: to be good reality TV fodder, the families chosen need to be somewhat bizarre: the Gosselins used fertility drugs to conceive; the Duggars are bizarre religious fanatics; another family is comprised entirely of dwarves? You get the picture. Until this kind of programming becomes “unfascinating” to viewing audiences, it will be the staple of networks like TLC. Don’t watch them, and they will, indeed, “go away.”
M commented on May 13 10 at 10:25 amPatricia, then are you saying that TLC strong-armed the Gosselin parents into signing a contract. That’s ridiculous to think that it’s all TLC’s fault. The network can do nothing with these children without the written consent of the parents!! I don’t approve of the Gosselin kids working-never will approve of it. I don’t watch this train wreck on tv and don’t recommend it to others. If you truly thing exposing these kids most private moments for the masses to enjoy, then you certainly need to think of another form of entertainment. Exposing these little ones on their potty chairs, in their pj’s and in their bedrooms is never acceptable to televise to the world.
Patricia commented on May 13 10 at 10:28 amI’m not saying that at all, M. I’m saying that there will ALWAYS be bizarre people willing to get paid for being bizarre! That how “reality” stars are made. If you want to put an end to it – STOP WATCHING.
M commented on May 13 10 at 10:32 amPoint taken–you are correct. I don’t watch this junk on tv. TLC is not the channel it was in years past. It should be called The Loser Channel!!
D commented on May 13 10 at 11:24 amTo the poster who is coming to PA. Welcome! But like AZ, make sure your papers are intact before you come pouncing over our state border. We have enough nut cases already.

not kidding commented on May 13 10 at 2:23 pmLiza it was COLLIN not Aaden! Aaden is next to him in the picture. There are many photos of Collin doing this when there are cameras around. Let’s not forget his fifth birthday party. Where he sat on the table rocked back and forth and back and forth obviously stressed out.
TLC Protest commented on May 13 10 at 3:25 pmPsst… There is a “non-violent” TLC and Gosselin Family protest being arranged for later this month.
They intend to picket in protest of the filming and exploitation of the Gosselin children. Like me, you can stop the maniacal blogging and help us make a difference! Check out the Gosselin 15 Minutes site…
May commented on May 13 10 at 5:39 pmNot Kidding – There is no way to know that Collin was rocking at his birthday because he was stressed. All of the feelings assigned to the pictures of these children are only conjecture. Probably to serve the purpose of hating on their mom.
Tupelo commented on May 13 10 at 7:07 pmActually, I think that kid has special needs. Occasionally, his screaming verges on the decibel scale that only dogs can hear.
Jessica commented on May 14 10 at 8:30 am@TUPELO, did you even read the last part of my paragraph? Christ, it’s not that hard. I don’t know anything about the Gosselins, obviously. I’m not claiming that I know Kate Gosselin’s behaviour and needs. I’m offering my opinion (stress the word ‘opinion’ and look it up). It’s only my opinion which clearly doesn’t equal a worldly fact. As I’ve said, I’m critiquing how Kate Gosselin comes across through the media because that’s what people do. We all critique a celebrity in some way, either thinking that they are lovely people or monsters. But what I’m doing is not trying to pass of my opinions as facts, I’m simply offering my two cents and I THINK that Kate Gosselin is narcissistic and selfish based on how I see her through the media. I’m only judging which I admit. I’m not giving people a run through of how she is in real life, as I wouldn’t know.
Sally commented on May 14 10 at 1:11 pmTupelo:
You raise the point that the kids in the “Brady Bunch” were working – but not the Gosselin kids. However, I do want to point something out that you did not mention.Once the Brady Bunch actors were finished for the day, they were allowed to go to the privacy of their OWN home, where there were no cameras filming their every-day movements and temper tantrums and illnesses, etc. They were ACTING.
The Gosselin children don’t have that luxury. Their home, their own personalities, whatever – is all on TV for the world to see. They have no privacy – the cameras don’t turn “off” when their “lines” are done. That is what some people find offensive about this show – it’s like “The Truman Show” all over again.

Kdub commented on May 14 10 at 5:54 pmShe is so selfish. She makes me sick. Shame on TLC as well. BUT she is supposed to be their mother. YOU can tell with them acting out and and her now saying they fight all the time, that they need HELP. THEY need to camera’s shut off and need HER to get them some help. She is such a narcissist that she will never do that. UGGHH she is such a mess.
Debbie commented on May 14 10 at 6:17 pmWhy not just tell Donald Trump to stop living like a king and stay home and spend time with his kids. He has little ones and the D isnt getting any younger. To you people its ok for everyone but Kate. If I had the opportunity to have a job and make that kind of money, you better believe I would do it. Look at people that win the lotto and 1 year later they are broke. It can happen to anyone, so if she feels she needs that security who are we to say different. And as for Colin, he is trying to keep rain from his face, but I know how much you all love to make something out of nothing!!! Get your own lives.
Debbie commented on May 14 10 at 6:20 pmAnd to KDUB, kids are going to fight. Hell my sister is 59 and I am 57 and we still bicker at each other. Its never ending. That doesnt mean we still dont love each other.
Tupelo commented on May 14 10 at 8:47 pmSally, your points are well taken. In the Kate Plus Eight specials, though, the kids are not being filmed on a daily basis. TLC states that they will film “specials” related to events in the kids’ lives, like birthdays. I don’t know if that’s much of a comfort to anyone who strongly opposes their being filmed at all, but it’s an improvement over the John and Kate Plus Eight format, in my opinion.
