Gwyneth Paltrow Calls Shorts on Moms “Ridiculous”

100426A1 PALTROW B GR 02 201x300 Gwyneth Paltrow Calls Shorts on Moms RidiculousI’ve always been a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow but after reading this morning’s GOOP newsletter, I am beginning to understand why some people are…not.

The 37-year old actress and mother of Apple and Moses has been on the longest press junket in history, traveling the world in support of her new movie Iron Man 2. In order to get ready for the role, she had to get herself in peak physical condition-a feat she has been talking about. A lot. Hence, today’s GOOP, in which she boasts about the wonders of Tracey Anderson’s diet and exercise program. Anderson’s other claim to fame, in additon to being a celebrity trainer, is to have invented the Baby Food diet, and Gwyneth seems to be drawing from some of those principles when she describes a day’s eating plan, which includes a kale juice smoothie. (Note to self: I said yesterday I’d rather eat anything than baby food. I take it back. I would sooner eat sand than drink kale juice. Who’s with me?)

But Gwyneth swears by it, writing, “This regime got me into the shape of my life and I continue to return to it when I have a specific event so that I can do ridiculous things like be a 37 year old mother of two and wear shorts!”

Two things: one, when you spend your days trudging back and forth between the swings at the playground, the sprinklers on the lawn, and the sandbox at the park, shorts aren’t ridiculous. Platforms heels on the other hand, are. Two: for someone who finds shorts ridiculous, she sure seems to wear them often enough. For a good week there, its all she wore.

More of Gwyneth and the shorts she hates so much—for the rest of us anyway—on the next page.

I think you misunderstood the meaning of her statement. I think she was being sarcastic, not saying that it was ridiculous for her to be a mother a wear shorts. At any rate, that was a strange quote to pull for the basis of your entire article.

That was “and” not “a” in the above comment. Sorry for the typo!

Wow, this post really reads a lot into a single sentence. And kale smoothies actually taste pretty darn good.

I’m not a Gwyneth fan, but it was clear to me her comment was said tongue in cheek. Formal shorts *are* ridiculous, in my opinion, but more power to her for working her tookus off to show off her well toned legs.
