Melanie Griffith Talks Family, Addiction to !Hola! Mag
It’s no secret that mother of three Melanie Griffith has fought substance abuse for much of her life. Her latest stint in rehab was for painkillers last August after she got hooked again following a skiing accident. But her husband of almost 14 years, Antonio Banderas tells !Hola! magazine the love of their family has kept them together through it all.
“There were people who literally didn’t give us more than six months!” Banderas, 49, says. ”But we love each other, and above all we love our family. We’ve figured out how to get past obstacles … and if you get past those, you only get stronger.”
And it looks like Griffith believes she’s conquered her addictions and she talked to !Hola! about that as well.
“Now I feel free. I don’t drink. I don’t take pills. Nothing. And it’s fantastic. It’s like getting out of prison.”
“Addiction’s a tough enemy to defeat. I think of it as a monster. If I feed it, it will always want more and more, so now I’m letting it starve to death in a corner. But it’s always there.”
Griffith and Banderas have one daughter, Stella, 13. Griffith also has daughter Dakota with ex-husband Don Johnson, and son Alexander with first husband Steven Bauer.
