Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley’s second son, Jasper, is a mere one year old. Yet already, he’s proving to be easier than big brother Huck, 3. Is Jasper simply an easier kid, or does birth order have something to do with it? Paisley has something to say about that—as well as some definite ideas about discipline.

“The second kid just kind of takes the table scraps and doesn’t complain as much,” he tells PEOPLE Moms & Babies. “They instantly feel their place. They’re not the center of the universe so much.” One man’s opinion, or timeworn truth? Let us know what you think.

He also says that while life with kids is an “utter joy,” he and Kimberly aren’t afraid to let the tots know who’s in charge. “Discipline is a big deal,” he says. If the kids “can’t understand that you can’t do certain things, there’s going to be trouble in life.”

Peace out, man.

I don’t know. I have twins and therefore neither one has ever been the center of the universe. However, neither is at all laid back. I’m guessing that perception with second kids is WAY more about the parents being more relaxed. Fussiness that feels like the end of the world (and a reflection of your failings as a parent) with a first kid probably barely hits the radar with a second kid.
