Michael J. Fox Talks Family to Reader’s Digest
Michael J. Fox, 48, has four children with wife Tracy Pollan, but he jokes in a recent interview it sometimes “feels like five.” Fox married Pollan in 1988 and started having kids soon thereafter: Sam Michael (born 1989), twins Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances (born 1995), and Esmé Annabelle (born 2001).
Much of what the Family Ties veteran discusses in this month’s Reader’s Digest is, fittingly enough, about family. And he clues us into his secret for a long, happy marriage. ”The key to our marriage is the capacity to give each other a break. And to realize that it’s not how our similarities work together; it’s how our differences work together.” More insight from the funny guy — and medical activist — next.
On parenting: “Always be available to your kids. Because if you say, ‘Give me five minutes, give me ten minutes,’ it’ll be 15, it’ll be 20. And then when you get there, the shine will have worn off whatever it is they wanted to share with you. I’ve never gotten up to see something one of my kids wanted to show me and not been rewarded.”
Fox also discusses his Parkinson’s, getting sober and his Zen outlook. Read the entire interview here.
