Is Suri Wearing Slippers on her Doctor’s Orders?
Over the past week, Suri Cruise has completely forgone her usual high-heeled shoes. The pint-sized fashion-plate, who turns 4 this weekend, has, instead, been making headlines in furry slippers and ballet flats. Did her doctor order her off the pumps? We’ve got one orthopedist’s take on the matter, exclusively to Famecrawler, below.
“Usually when we walk, there’s an equal amount of pressure on the heel and the forefoot. When you wear shoes like hers,” the orthopedist (who specializes in foot-and-ankle injuries) told Famecrawler after viewing the picture of Suri’s high heels, below, “the pressure is thrown out of balance. It is increased on the forefoot.”
He says no studies have been done on the effect of heels on children’s feet since, “Why would a child wear high heels?” Studies done on adults, however, show that this “increase in forefoot forefoot pressure could contribute to metatarsal calluses, hammer toes or bunions. The high heels won’t cause these issues, but could contribute.”
Since kids’ feet largely mirror adults’, the doctor warns, “There’s a potential for anybody wearing these shoes to have forefoot problems, kids included.” Did Suri hear the same thing from her own doctor? I wouldn’t be surprised.
As for her bunny ears, so far, I can’t find any medical basis.
