Did A Famous Family Affect The Downfall Of Michael Douglas’ Son?
Michael Douglas and ex-wife Diandra Douglas’ son Cameron, 31, has recently come under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He recently pled guilty to dealing crystal meth and faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
Cameron has had trouble with drugs over the years and was reportedly shooting heroin six times a day. What happened? Friends blame privilege, neglect and a family legacy of substance abuse.
Cameron’s defense plea will include account of his parents’ erratic, fast-lane lifestyle and their drug abuse, which Michael Douglas has refused to comment on. It has also come to light that he was left almost entirely in the care of nannies while his father worked on acting and his mother focused on wildlife preservation. At one point, an ocelot was brought into their home and bit Cameron.
Nancy Hersch Ingram, Diandra’s godmother has stated that Cameron grew up “in the shadow of mythic forebears, and the embarrassment and scrutiny of the paparazzi. He was a very sweet and shy boy. … That he somehow needed to be ‘somebody’ was evident, but who should he be?”
School friends have stated the same, saying that while he tried to fit in, he was treated differently because of his last name.
Family members are now hoping that the court will also treat him differently. Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas, and step-mom Catherine Zeta-Jones have all written the judge in his behalf.
