28181PCN PebbleBeach76 300x199 Phil Mickelson Talks Kiddie Caddies at The Masters, Tiger Left OutThe Master’s officially gets underway tomorrow, but try telling that to the kiddie caddies that got to walk the greens with their dads during today’s Par 3 Tournament.

The event, held on the day before the tournament, features the sons, daughters and grandkids of the golfers, running amok on the course in scaled down versions of the famous white caddie jumpsuits.

“It’s really a special time for me to have my kids caddie for me,” Phil Mickelson told The Golf Channel. “We have pictures taken and we have collages and we put them up at home and I love looking back at how little they were. I just can’t believe how much they have grown and I use it kind of as a time line, seeing them in their cute little jumpers.”

That is just too cute for words.

On the opposite spectrum of experience, cut to Tiger Woods–who was already a bit of a golf prodigy by the time he was the age his daughter Sam is now. For Woods, there were no little helpers on hand to help him carry his bags. With Elin choosing to keep their kids, away from Augusta, Tiger skipped the event, rather than put himself in the awkward position of playing alone.

I never thought I’d say this, but I sort of feel for the guy. Just because he brought all this upon himself doesn’t make it any less sad that he is now standing so far on the margins of his own life, sitting in his hotel room while his peers take part in a day that celebrates the bonds of family. And let’s not pretend Tiger is the only dad around–or on the course–who has violated those bonds. Right now, he’s just the one who got caught.
