Why? She doesn’t know how long her good fortune in the entertainment industry will last, so she better get in all the good roles she can now. Like her award-winning portrayal of a wronged spouse in “The Good Wife” and one starring alongside Andy Garcia in the upcoming film “City Island.”

Although Margulies initially planned to take a one-year maternity leave upon her son’s birth, it was her mother who pointed out that she should enjoy her career success now, because it might not last forever.

Margulies says of her mom: “She’ll say, ‘Honey, how long can this go on for? If you’re lucky, three to four years. Then suddenly you won’t have a job and your kid will be sleeping until 10 am. Enjoy it now.’ “

And she’ll give up sleep for professional fulfillment. On her exhaustive schedule filming “City Island,” which occurred when her son was still an infant, she says: “It was so fulfilling that it didn’t matter that I would come home from night shoots just as my baby was getting up. My feeling is, so I’ll be tired for a while.”

If you are a working mom, do you feel the same — or does the guilt about being away from the children creep in?
