Adorable Zahara Jolie Pitt is, like so many kids, a thumb-sucker. But according to experts, Angelina and Brad might want to wean the 5-year-old off of ye olde thumb before it’s too late.
“According to the American Dental Association,” says Dr. Greene of drgreene.com, “thumb sucking does not cause permanent problems with the teeth or jaw line unless it is continued beyond 4 to 5 years of age. As it turns out, somewhere between 85% and 99% of children have finished thumb sucking spontaneously before this period.”

Oops.

“Many parents are concerned that thumb sucking at a late age is a sign of emotional immaturity or lack of self-confidence,” continued the doctor, who does not know and was not speaking specifically about Zahara Jolie-Pitt, Brad or Angelina. “When investigators have looked at late thumb suckers for common traits, they found only one thing in common that distinguished them from other children — a prolonged history of a strong battle with thumb sucking at an earlier age. It is striking that many well-meaning parents have actually encouraged thumb sucking by trying to forcibly take the thumb out of their children’s mouths.”
Having trouble with the issue, Brad and Ange? Dr. Greene says try putting a drop of vinegar or pickle juice on the child’s thumb to discourage the sucking. That’ll show her.

They should get her a “Thumbuddy To Love” to help her stop thumb sucking. You can order it on thumbuddytolove.com

I’m 59 and love sucking my thumb, so it’s never too old! Hey, it’s free, legal, effective, calming, convenient, doesn’t interfere with the space of others, doesn’t result in overweight. Leave the thumb suckers alone, deal with the smokers, gamblers and fatties if you have to bother others.

She’s not going to walk down the isle sucking her thumb. She will give it up when She is ready. I am finding that our culture tries to make our children grow up too fast. Who says that my two year old can’t still have milk in a bottle? She will give it up when She is ready & Im not going to force the issue!

I wish Babble would quit asking judgmental questions like this of celebrity parents. It perpetuates parent-on-parent criticism and we all need a measure of grace these days since we’re all just doing our best.

if there was a never ending rabid posse of paparazzi after me every time I walked outside, I’d suck my thumb too. Let the little kids do their little kid things in peace.
