Murray, a cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died at his rented mansion just outside of Los Angeles, entered his plea Monday in L.A. Superior Court just hours after he was charged. Murray is charged with a single felony in a five-page complaint, which states he “did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson” by acting “without due caution and circumspection.”

The complaint doesn’t delve into details on Jackson’s death but authorities have accused Murray of administering the powerful general anesthetic Propofol and other drugs to help Jackson sleep. Murray has maintained that he did nothing that should have caused Jackson to die.

If convicted, Murray faces up to four years in prison.

Although Murray’s not guilty plea sets up the prospect of a sensational courtroom drama, at least a trial will be a small step in bringing closure to the Jackson family and especially Michael’s children Prince, Paris and Blanket.
