Well, this might not make you cry but we all know how Sparks’ books and movies bring on the waterworks. See the video after the jump.

Sparks is the author of many romantic books made into films: The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe,  A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle — and the new release, Dear John. So what’s his secret to a romantic Valentine’s Day?

Sparks suggests writing a letter that tells them why you love them — holding hands, the kindness they show to other people, the way they teach their children.

“Tell someone why you love them and be specific,” he says. “Make sure the person understands why they mean so much to you. Not just generalities. ‘I love you because I married you,’ that’s not enough. ‘I love you because of … the way you treat people … .”

Well, I guess Sparks would know — he and his wife have been married for 21 years and have five children together.
