Not-So-Material Girl: Madonna Gives $250,000 to Haiti Relief
Madonna announced that she has donated $250,000 to help the people of Haiti and she is urging her friends and family to do the same. The singer says she donated to Partners in Health, a longtime health care provider in Haiti — and the same organization Meryl Streep mentioned in her Golden Globes acceptance speech last night.
“I urge all of my friends and fans around the world to join me collectively to match my contribution or give in any way you can,” Madonna said. “We must act now.”
Madonna joins other generous celebrities who are taking action in light of the earthquake that devastated the Caribbean nation on Tuesday.
What a great example Madonna is setting for her kids — let’s hope more people accept her challenge and donate generously.

Megg commented on Jan 18 10 at 7:44 pmWhy has Madonna been singled out and written about in this way? There are plenty of other high profile celebrities who have donated far more money. I was struck at how little she gave. Considering the crazy amount of money someone like Madonna must make, $250,000 doesn’t seem generous to me. I mean, compared to the $100 I can afford, it’s nothing to sneeze at, but for us $100 is a big deal. I can’t see $250,000 being that big a deal for her. If you’re going to highlight the generosity of celebrities pick someone like Gisele Bundchen who reportedly donated 1.5 million.
