Will Smith Puts Hancock 2 On Hold For Family Time
Earlier this week, director Peter Berg announced that Hancock 2 has been put on hold while Will Smith takes some time out of making completely unnecessary sequels to spend time with his soon-to-be movie star children.
Darn. I know how much you were looking forward to watching another sequel to a intensely mediocre summer blockbuster.
Yeah, it’s a shame. I’m wondering if maybe Will Smith just doesn’t really want to make the movie, and that’s the reason he’s dragging his feet? It didn’t exactly any raving reviews or anything, but it did take in $227M at the box office. The official excuse was given by Peter Berg:
“It’s being written now and it’s an issue of everybody involved in Hancock. There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that it’s so busy and Will has kind of taken time off to be with his kids and his kids are now making all kinds of films.
There are so many people involved in that, from Will to his (business) partner James Lassiter to Michael Mann, myself and to get us all in the same room just like this where we can all talk and then agree on anything, you’ve never met a group of people that have a harder time agreeing on anything.
It’s like the Israeli peace process times a thousand how tough it is to resolve. I think it’ll happen though. We just have to kind of get in the same room for some consistency.”
Will’s son Jaden is set to start filming a Karate Kid remake, and supposedly Will wants to help guide Jaden through his first starring role in a feature film. Will’s 8-year-old daughter Willow is working on an acting career of her own.
Sure, I guess that’s an excuse to put Hancock 2 on hold… but it definitely sounds like an excuse.
