Hank Azaria has a new found appreciation for the March of Dimes, an organization that focuses on helping families with premature babies, after his own son was born considerably early.  Azaria spoke at a March of Dimes luncheon about the organization and what he and girlfriend Katie Wright have experienced since the birth of their son Hal.

“Once we went through what you go through with a premature child even with the best care, the idea that there’s an organization that helps people and children in that situation is fantastic.”

Hal is now 5-months old and thriving, but he began life in an incubator and without the suck-swallow reflux that makes regular feeding possible.  Little Hal being able to take a bottle marked a “big day” according to Hank.  “Him being able to take a bottle is a huge milestone,” Azaria says.

The actor is currently filming a documentary about fatherhood, and he says that the interviews he’s doing for the film are really helping him as a new father.

“I ask for a lot of advice from different fathers — all kinds of dads,” he says. “I have learned a lot and it has been very helpful.”

We hope Hal will continue to meet his milestones and wish Azaria’s family continued good fortune.
