Amanda Peet Compares Parenting To A Plane Crash
Amanda Peet has only been a mother for a little more than 2 years, but she’s already dishing out sage parenting advice.
And that wasn’t sarcasm.
In the December issue of Self magazine, Peet talks about how she survives raising daughter Frances ‘Frankie’ Pen.
“You have to put on your own oxygen mask before you put on others,” Amanda says. In other words, you have to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of your kids. Although the actress admits, “It’s a good metaphor for parenting, but it’s really hard to do sometimes.”
Preach it, sister!
Amanda goes on to talk about how women often battle with the idea of putting themselves first. “A lot of women feel that if they’re exerting energy in different areas of their life…it’s automatically detrimental to the child,” Peet says. “I think the exact opposite is true. Children need to have a role model who is able to identify her passions and go after them.”
Amanda - can I call you Amanda? - I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head. And you’ll be happy to know that First Lady Michelle Obama agrees with us.
