nicole kidman 000a 240x300 Nicole Kidman Heads To Kenya To Help WomenNicole Kidman is on a mission to end violence against the women of Kenya.

On Thursday, Kidman went to the east African country of Kenya to help launch an initiative by United Nations Development Fund for Women.  While there, the actress is planning to visit hospitals and schools as part of her efforts.

A large percentage of Kenyan women have been abused, and Nicole is passionate about her role in helping to bring about change.

Kidman has talked in the past about Hollywood’s role in violence against women, citing that the film industry continues to portray women as weak sex objects.  Nicole says, “I can’t be responsible for all of Hollywood, but I can certainly be responsible for my own career.”

While Nicole has certainly played the part of “sex object” in the past, it’s encouraging to see powerful women getting involved in helping other women around the world.  As a mother, I’m sure Nicole is keenly aware of the example she’s setting for her children as she follows in the footsteps of her own activist parents.
