Jon Gosselin Goes To Synagogue For Parenting Advice
Newly Jewish Jon Gosselin attended a “Values to Heal America” event at Manhattan’s Central Synagogue on Sunday night, participating in a Q&A session where he asked high profile panelists (including Nobel Prize winning author Elie Wiesel, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and Dr. Mehmet Oz) questions about how he should approach his uniquely screwed up parental situation.
I should probably clarify one thing, Jon hasn’t officially converted to Judaism yet — at least not that I know of. However, in a recent interview, it sounded pretty likely that Jon would convert to girlfriend Hailey’s faith.
Asked Jon:
“My question is, obviously I’m going through a divorce and it’s pretty public. What are two or three values can I use to raise good kids?”
In the multi-part answer (that could have probably been even longer for Jon’s benefit), Elie Wiesel told Jon “not to be a hypocrite. Children see hypocrisy and they don’t respect it.”
Oz added, “kids don’t always do what their parents tell them to, but do they what their parents do. [Don't get] caught up in the Hollywood hype. This is your family, and your must care for them.”
Interesting… their answers sound kinda like all the other advice that intelligent people have given Jon and Kate — which they’ve ignored — e.g. stop being hypocrites and get your kids off of TV.
In addition, I’ve got to say that if there was ever someone who needed to attend an event called “Values to Heal America,” it’s Jon Gosselin. For some reason though, I feel like his questions were scripted and he considered this some kind of Team Jon PR event (especially since his lawyer was there with him).
That could just be my inner cynic though. Even if Jon really did want to attend this event out of genuine curiosity, there would be a ton of press there either way.
