Emily Mortimer on Being Mocked By Her Son and Childbirth
No one likes to be mocked by their own child, especially over something as integral to your persona as your voice. Actress Emily Mortimer (Pink Panther, Lars and the Real Girl, Bright Young Things) is daily reminded of her native accent by her six year old son. “[He] mocks me every time I open my mouth,” she told the UK’s Psychologies magazine. “He talks with an American accent, which I don’t mind, but I do resent him taking the piss out of mine!”
Currently Emily is pregnant with her second child who is due in January. She talked about giving birth to her first child saying that she was “brainwashed” and that “you have to go natural in order to be a real woman.” After 24 hours of labor she went for the epidural. She said in the interview, “I can remember saying to the anaesthetist, ‘Oh, I love you, thank you so much. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’ve always loved drugs. I’ve never been known to turn a drug down!’”
