David Letterman’s On-Air Apology To Wife Was Forced?
David Letterman was perhaps hoping his infidelity scandal would just go away, however, it doesn’t look like it will anytime soon. According to sources, the apology that the late-night talk show host issued to his wife, Regina Lasko, was forced – by her.
Dave’s apology to Regina, on-air:
“My wife…has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it.
“And at that point, there’s only two things that can happen: either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.”
A source said that Letterman had no intention of apologizing on TV. “He wanted the whole thing to blow over. But Regina told him he better make an apology to let everyone know how sorry he was for how much he hurt and humiliated her.”
The insider added, “She demanded that he go over with her exactly what he was going to tell viewers and studio audience members on Monday. She was even willing to allow him to make one or two jokes to be a part of it as long as they weren’t at her expense.”
However, Regina is not happy with the way he took the jokes too far, making his apology seem less sincere.
“Regina felt like Dave’s humorous take on the apology lessened the sincerity of it, and she’s not happy at all.”
Ouch. Can these two work it out? Or will they end up like a lot of celebrity couples who split and then have nasty custody battles?
