David Letterman Extortion: What About Regina Lasko and Harry? (VIDEO)
As reported earlier David Letterman dropped a bombshell on last night’s Late Show when he revealed that he had had sexual relations with female staff members and was the target of a $2 million extortion attempt by someone who threatened to go public with the details. (The perpetrator was later identifed as Joe Halderman, a 48 Hours producer.) All this is surprising since Letterman always seemed like such a stand-up guy and he was with wife Regina Lasko for some 23 years before they tied the knot earlier this year. See the video after the jump.
After laying out his confession Letterman said of the extortionist’s demands, “I was worried for myself, I was worried for my family,” he said. “I felt menaced by this, and I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I had done.”
“The creepy stuff was that I have had sex with women who work for me on this show,” he said.
The ‘family’ that Letterman is referring to is wife Regina Lasko, who he married earlier this year, and son Harry, 5. And while there has been no public statement from Lasko, apparently neither the extortion attempt or her husband’s sexual dalliances were news to her; she told Letterman’s mother Dorothy Mengering about it earlier in the day. “I’m looking forward to seeing the show to see what he has to say,” Mengering said. “I really just found out today.”
Watch the entire segment below. It’s a little choppy – will re-post a better version when it becomes available:
