“Kate Plus 8!” TLC Kicks Jon To The Curb
Looks like the rumors that TLC would cancel Jon & Kate Plus 8 were right on. According to the latest gossip, Jon & Kate Plus 8 is no more… Long live Kate Plus 8! That’s right, TLC has reportedly kicked Jon to the curb in favor of a new format that focuses on Kate as a single mother. Who could blame them?
Jon will still appear on the show, just less frequently than he has in the previous seasons. In fact, almost nothing about the show has changed, except that TLC has given Jon the finger in a very public way.
Obviously, TLC has been concerned with the Gosselin’s plummeting ratings and perhaps this is their plan to win back the show’s faithful viewers. I wonder if it will work?
Personally, I think the change is simply a marketing decision. They’re attempting to win back viewers who’ve become outraged by Jon’s brazen immorality and I think TLC’s hoping to appeal to those viewers by giving Jon a holier-than-thou rebuke.
From a press release:
“The program will continue to capture the incredible lives of the eight Gosselin children and their family, but will now include a deeper focus on Kate’s role in the family and her journey as a single mother building the next chapter in her life. TLC will continue its exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will continue to appear on the show, but on a less regular basis.”

Linda commented on Sep 30 09 at 7:58 pmSo now the focus is on Kate working the biz and juggling a nanny and Jon with the kids? Is this the new chapter in her life as a single mother? Boy, Kate surely knows how to get her way.
Brian commented on Oct 01 09 at 10:26 amTake away all the tabloid stuff, and the facts that we know WAY too much about these people, this seems like a case of media not knowing what to do about a father. TV has been notoriously rough on dads. Kick off Jon and things simplify for the TV world. It’s an easier thing to market and package. And, of course it supports the image of divorced dads as less than capable parents. That is just how it feels to me, the whole thing is messy, sad and none of our business, except that they keep making it our business, so . . . ? http://www.strongfathersmaine.org
