“Jon & Kate Plus 8″ Canceled?

TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 was once one of the network’s biggest hits.  Now?  Not so much.  So, not only is Jon and Kate Gosselin’s marriage in the toilet, so might be the show.

According to Kate Gosselin’s Facebook status, which read, “With ratings falling, this might be the last season of Jon and Kate Plus 8.  I’m not sure yet,” the show could be kaput.

Although the show saw over 10 million viewers tune in back in June when Jon and Kate were giving their “big announcement,” the ratings have steadily declined over the past few months.

Jon & Kate was once about a young family with two sets of multiples and how they got through daily life with such a huge brood.  We saw them struggle with every day things and how they came together as a family.  But now?  It’s such a sad trainwreck, it’s difficult to watch (for the record, yeah, I don’t watch.. snippet here and there).

Yes, divorce is part of life sometimes.  But, honestly, it’s not something that most people want to watch.  It’s really a private matter especially when children are involved and doesn’t it seem almost wrong to tune in at this point?  Must be, because the ratings sure indicate that.  Viewership is at about 1.7 million.  Yikes.

From UsMagazine: “After they announced their split, experts speculated the show might not survive.  ‘I don’t know if the show can make the new transition [from two parents raising eight kids to one parent raising the children].’ said Robert J. Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University.  ‘It’s like if The Cosby Show, mid-season, suddenly became Married with Children.’”

Their marriage didn’t survive.  Can the show?

And if not, is that best for the kids, anyway?  To be out of the public eye, at least some?  But on the other hand, it’s the bread and butter for those kids.  How will Kate support them if she doesnt’ have the show?  Hard call.  Doesn’t seem like much of a win-win situation either way you slice it.
