Ben Folds Sings The Levi Johnston Blues (Video)
As if getting an offer to do Playgirl wasn’t enough, the guy who knocked up Sarah Palin’s daughter at the worst of all possible times has now been immortalized in song by none other than song writing duo Ben Folds and UK novelist Nick Hornby. No joke. (check out the song below)
Rather than simply trash the self-proclaimed “redneck,” the song almost seeks to tell Levi’s story in a kind of ironic, Randy Newman sort of way. Says Hornby:
“It’s the tension between his bravado and the panic he must have felt… Hopefully, it’s sympathetic.”
I think he managed to pull it off. Some of the lyrics are tongue and cheek, but rather than simply lampoon Levi’s back country roots, the song actually makes you think about how freaky it must be to all of the sudden be thrust into the limelight (and a shotgun wedding). Here’s a sampling of the lyrics:
“I like to hang out with the boys, play some hockey, do some fishing and kill some moose.”
Folds and Hornby have apparently been collaborating for a while now. Ben Folds writes the music, Hornsby pens the lyrics — pretty cool.

Levi Johnston to Make SNL Appearance? | Famecrawler commented on Nov 10 09 at 4:01 pmDaoud commented on Sep 17 09 at 3:22 pmAhah! What you are missing, is that the lyrics you’ve quoted were actually written by Levi Johnston himself — on his myspace page! They got scrubbed pretty quickly after Sarah Palin was named VP candidate. But “in his own words” is what makes this parody so humorous. Hoist by his own petard, penis, and pleating on myspace…
