Roger Federer Talks About Twins and Wins
Roger Federer’s adventures in parenting haven’t seemed to get in the way of his tennis game. Last weekend, he showed to the Cincinnati Master and took back the rank of #1 in the world with his first win as a daddy. Will he get to bring home a Grand Slam title to his new twins from the US Open?
Roger’s wife Mirka gave birth to twin girls (Myla Rose and Charlene Riva) back in July and he’s spent the summer trying to find a balance between being a dad and being a dominant force in the world of tennis.
Currently ranked no. 1 in the world, Federer came to Cincinnati to work the rust out of his game — since he’s obviously had less time to train. When discussing his first big post-fatherhood win, this is what Roger had to say:
“That’s the special part, especially winning for the first time as a dad,” Federer said. “It gets me going emotionally a little bit, because I know it’s been a wonderful summer….
I felt like my game was already pretty well in place in practice, so I knew coming over here it was not just to show up,” he said. “That it paid off so quickly, I’m a little bit surprised, you know?”
Federer’s first Grand Slam tournament as a father begins today.
