How does Billy Ray Cyrus manage to deal with a teenage superstar, a 20-year-old indie rocker, and a 22-year-old singer/actress? He sat down with CNN to chat it up about his active family and whacked out career.

BRC on balancing stardom with fatherdom:

“I just take it one step at a time and do the best I can.

My dad was to me what I try to be to Miley, which is somewhat of a best friend. I try my best to be a good daddy and if she wants to talk about business or music I try my best to be a good manager. I try to be all of those things because that’s what my dad was to me…

His name was Ronald Ray Cyrus and a lot of people say Miley changed her name to Miley Ray because of Billy Ray, but that’s not true. She did that in honor of my dad, because the two of them just loved each other to pieces.”

It’s not often that I get to write about David Lynch on Famecrawler, but oddly enough, the director of freakishly weird films was one of people who influenced Billy Ray to do what he does today.

No, Lynch didn’t recommend that Billy Ray start exploiting his daughter. Instead, he encouraged BRC to start acting, a move that would eventually spawn Hannah Montana.

If you’ve ever seen Lynch’s Mullholland Drive, you might remember that big ol’ country boy that beats up the LA director guy… that was BRC’s first role. Crazy, right? Afterward, Lynch encouraged BRC to keep it up and now he’s got his own show. Crazy.
