Billy Ray Cyrus Thinks Miley’s Pole Dancing Was Artsy
Miley Cyrus’ pole dancing routine at the Teen Choice Awards earlier this month was not without some controversy. A lot of people, particularly parents, thought it was too racy and much too adult for a 16-year-old girl. However, there’s one parent who didn’t have a problem with it – Miley’s dad, Billy Ray.

Billy Ray said, “You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people.
“She loves singing [and] songwriting.” And he tells his daughter to ignore negative comments.
He added, “I always tell her to love what you’re doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion.
“I give my kids a lot of freedom to make the art they wanna make, and make it in their own voice. I think it’s important.”
Hmm, art? I’m not sure a teenager twirling around a stripper-ish pole is artsy, but what do I know?
Did you think the performance was too racy or is everyone making a big deal out of it? Would you be comfortable with your 16-year-old girl doing that?

Lcuky commented on Aug 21 09 at 5:30 pmI watched the whole video. I really have to say that the dip she did in the door way and those shorts in general made me more uncomfortable than the umbrella pole she was dancing next to. It’s not like she was climbing it. Plus, since my girls are pretty hard-up for poles to dance on, I really rather she wasn’t convincing them that panties can double as outerwear… but she’s nowhere near the first girl on stage to do it. Maybe we should all try a dose of “what’s ok on stage is not ok in real life.”

afiveo commented on Aug 21 09 at 11:46 pmI agree with Lcuky. The pole was more or less there for stability. The outfit was more disturbing.
cocobean commented on Aug 22 09 at 10:27 amI don’t think she was doing anything that suggestive with the pole I just think it was a bad idea to put it in the show. She could have done something else and no one would have missed it. Looking at this through my mom eyes I think the shorts and the dancing are a little to suggestive but trying to think back to when I was 16 and I remember watching our dance team and they would do similar dance moves(if not worse) and would have the same kind of outfit on. I think maybe we should all stop spending so much time criticizing other peoples daughters and look at what our own are doing.
