In case you haven’t heard (because WE certainly don’t write about it here), Jon & Kate Plus 8 resumes on Monday, August 3, and if you are still a fan (seriously, hello? any left out there?), you might want to know about the changes that TLC have made concerning the show.

Eileen O’Neill, TLC president released a statement about the upcoming changes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 due to recent events, as in the breakup of Jon and Kate’s marriage and Jon’s subsequent dating sexcapades escapades.

O’Neill said:

“Over the last four years and through 100 episodes, we’ve captured this remarkable family’s entertaining chaos.

Viewers fell in love and the show developed a passionate, loyal following. But this past spring – life intervened and the family’s status changed. It was certainly something we never expected nor planned to have happen. But this has resulted in unprecedented television.

Our approach to the circumstance was simple: to cover the family with great care and thoughtfulness as they dealt with a subject that is all to familiar to many American families today.

Jon and Kate have never said they were perfect, which has made them relatable and created an undeniable connection with the viewers.

We will continue to capture this family’s journey in a respectful and sensitive way.

The show comes back on Monday and most new episodes remain a work in progress.

But I will tell you: the iconic couch is gone. Jon & Kate will now have separate chairs for their interviews.

You’re still going to see two parents that love their kids, but you’ll be seeing them parenting separately.

You’ll see what it’s like when Kate has to put a tent up for a backyard camping experience by herself. Or, see Jon trying to cook up a pizza for the kids.

As far as new people and places that may be cycling into Jon & Kate’s lives, we are taking it on a case-by-case basis.

This is real life. It’s important to remember that our cameras are only there for moments in time, and those moments have limits.”

You know, I can honestly see this both ways.  Yes, it does seem a bit weird to watch what is happening to this family… makes a person feel like they are invading something very private, and you wonder if the children are being exploited.  Are they?

However, on the other hand, maybe we can learn from what the Gosselins are going through.  Many families face divorce and a broken family unit; that is a sad fact of life.  Perhaps those experiencing a similar situation can relate to what Jon and Kate are faced with – trying to co-parent as amicably as possible despite their relationship ending.  Two parents now have to try to find a way to make a difficult situation as painless as they can so their children don’t suffer, or at least suffer as little as humanly possible.  Maybe they will set an example for other parents who are divorcing and trying to cope?  Perhaps Jon and Kate can be civil and respectful to one another and show their children, that even if Mommy and Daddy aren’t “together” they can still be caring and loving parents.  Don’t let your children down Jon and Kate!

Let’s just hope Jon doesn’t get his own solo show.

I’d like to see Kate be civil and respectful to anyone. True, lots of kids go through their parents’ divorces, but it’s awful to make them do so in the spotlight’s glare. If everything they do is “for the children,” as they say, they’d turn the cameras off and get real jobs. Plenty of large families have made do with less.
