Update: SJP Surrogate Cops Plead Not Guilty
At their arraignment this morning, the police chiefs involved in the SJP surrogate break-in case went before a judge who read them the charges that could land them in prison for years — all to get a celebrity baby scoop for the tabloids!
Barry Carpenter of Martins Ferry and Chad Dojack of Bridgeport were formally charged with counts of: burglary, receiving stolen property, theft in office, and tampering with evidence — to which the pleaded not guilty.
A third man, Bruce Callarick (the son of Bridgeport’s mayor), has also been charged with complicity to receive stole property.
Carpenter racked up the most felony charges by a long shot. If convicted on all counts, he could be sitting out the next 21 and 1/2 years in the clink. Dojack comes in second with an impressive 14 and 1/2 years if convicted. Ouch.
Of course, these guys will probably won’t get the maximum punishment under the law, but they’ve got to at least have butterflies in their stomachs.
