Cruz Beckham Named After Tom Cruise
According to Sports Illustrated writer Grant Wahl, Tom Cruise has factored into just about every major decision that David’s made since they became friends in 2003 – including naming his youngest son Cruz.
I’m not trying to insinuate that there’s a secret bromance going on between celebrity dads Tom Cruise and David Beckham, because it’s actually pretty well publicized. In fact, a new book is shedding light on the superstar man-crush, and the mutual admiration is enough to make you puke a little.
“I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different,’” Beckham told Wahl for the book, due from Crown Publishing on Tuesday. “And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that’s why we got it.”
David apparently consulted Tom on whether or not to take the job with the LA Galaxy. Then, when it came time to relocate to LA, the Beckhams moved just 5 minutes away from Tom-Kat.
Is Tom Cruise really that cool? Or is he a dangerously powerful Scientology brainwasher?
