Michael Jackson’s 11-year-old daughter Paris Katherine Jackson spoke briefly at the public memorial on Tuesday (July 7) and some have accused the family of coaching the girl to say what she did about her dad.

Although Paris’ speech was brief, it was emotional, and I, personally, do not think it was scripted.

According to Rev. Al Sharpton, Paris’ speech was impromtu:

“That touched everyone. And I think you couldn’t script that. She’s not reading a prompter,” he told CNN’s Larry King on Tuesday night. “This is a young lady — in fact, if you saw it, they had really said they wanted Janet Jackson to speak. And Janet kind of brought her forward. And she spoke from the heart about her father. I think she’s worried [about] the whole world [understanding] how human Michael Jackson was.”

I don’t think there is anything wrong with letting a child speak out about their parent who has passed away, if that is what the child wants to do.  It’s OK for them to express their grief any way that they feel comfortable with.  Perhaps Paris has read or heard some of the negative things written/said about her dad, and maybe speaking out was her way to let the public know that Michael was a good dad.  Maybe that was very important to her.  I think denying a child their need/want to express something about a loved one, particularly a parent, who has died is more damaging to their well-being.

Sure, we don’t know the Jacksons, but I seriously doubt they made Paris get up there and then had lines prepared for her.  Have we become that cynical to believe that it was?

When you lose a parent at her age, it is a tragedy. People don’t know what they do to a child’s self esteem when they say ANYTHING negative about the child’s parents. I believe she spoke from her heart. Leave his children alone to mourn, people.

It could have been that Paris had went through with the others
what she wanted to say. That would have been ok.
You could tell it was her own words with the ‘since I was born’ comment.

Did you notice Michael’s oldest son’s hand on his
aunt’s arm. I could FEEL his sorrow; needing the touch
someone.

You who are saying NO TEARS from Paris. Did you actually SEE
her face when she lifted it from Janet’s embrace?

I was 9 years old when my father died and I was asked by my mom if I wanted to say anything about him. I said yes and wanted to read something I tried to write about him. I had a choice not to, and when I was ready I was to let my mom know. I was very nervous, but it was something I wanted to do. paris’ speech was not fake nor coached. Im sure she was nervous to speak infront of the world out of her mask, but wanted to make sure everyone knew how wonderful her daddy was.I hate the media’s remarks, she will not be mentally ruined over it. Why dont we focus on the lil boy who came forward and admitted he lied about MJ molesting him and his father made him tell all those lies. Let MJ’s kids mourn their father without be critisized!

What the hell?
People in the media are really insensitive dumbasses.
the girl lost her father, and mike was an incredible father. well you know what, media, michael wasnt bad. so get over yourselves and get a life. the media wont admit that theyve been trying to make michael look like a monster for more than half of his career. but they cant!
its so disgusting that they would think that paris would lie about that. did you see her distraught face when she was done? she was very brave to say anything. i was moved to tears because i can relate. i lost my father at 11 and i miss him soo much. i mean, fools can talk about mike all they want for all i care. i dont really listen to them anymore because they are so ignorant. but michael’s kids? no. thats so sick. leave michael’s kids out of it.

OH BULL!!!!!!!!!! she faked that whole thing…i’m sure she loved her father, but she has no emotion whatsoever….no tears at all u can tell when a child is really crying and when one is faking… when prince and paris accepted the grammy I could tell prince was sad i felt bad for him and blanket, but paris all she said was “daddy was going to perform this year, but he couldn’t perform last year…thank you we love you daddy” look at her face emotionless u guys must be blind because its obvious just by reading her face
