What Ever Happened to Michael’s First Son Bubbles? (Video)
OK, so we’re getting bombarded with confusing news about the fate of Michael Jackson’s three youngest children, but whatever happened to MJ’s first adventure into fatherhood: Bubbles the chimp?
For a good portion of the 80′s, Bubbles was treated like Michael Jackson’s baby. Bubbles wore diapers, he learned to use the toilet, and MJ even taught him the family secret — how to do the moonwalk.
Over the years, we heard less and less about the superstar of the celebrity chimp world. Then, after Michael’s death, it occurred to someone: where the heck is Bubbles?
After some checking around, Bubbles has been located. In 2005, he left Michael’s Neverland Ranch and now resides at the Center for Great Apes:
According to the Center’s website, Bubbles “is able to throw sand with amazing accuracy, he is extremely gentle with the youngsters, especially infant [chimp] Stryker. In fact, the baby can often be seen riding around on Bubbles’ back.”
“Bubbles can be sensitive and dramatic. If he has any kind of cut or scratch on his body…no matter how small… he will show it many times during the day to his caregivers and ask for sympathy,” his caregivers report.
Interested parties can “adopt” Bubbles: “For a donation of $150, you will receive an adoption certificate, frame quality photograph with biography, and become a member of the sanctuary for one year. For $10,000 you can become my exclusive adoptive “parent” for one full year and have the opportunity for a unique overnight stay in a guest cabin on sanctuary grounds.”
