New Mom Candace Parker: Baby Is The Joy In Her Life

WNBA Los Angeles Sparks player Candace Parker and her husband, Sacramento Kings player Sheldon Williams, welcomed their first child, a daughter, Lailaa Nicole Williams, on May 9.  New mom Candace says “baby is the joy in [her] life.”

Although Parker is getting much less sleep now, she is “doing great” and is enjoying motherhood.  She is also looking forward to getting back to work and actually, has started training for the basketball season.

Candace said, “I feel good and I feel like I’m pretty much a few pounds heavier than my playing weight (she was 175 pounds last year).  But I pretty much got back down to where I was, give or take five or seven pounds.  That will burn off in the first week in practice.”

Will the new mom be able to get back in the game just weeks after giving birth?

Said Parker, “My teammates have done it. Tina Thompson came back the same season she delivered her son. Lisa Leslie waited a year. They’re still at the top of their game. I don’t think it’s going to be easy, by any means, but I think it’s possible to come back better than I was. I understand my body a lot more. I focus a lot more on stretching and taking care of myself.”

She sounds totally disciplined and I’m guessing she won’t have any trouble getting back to the top of her game!
