Roger Federer Wins French Open Because of His Pregnant Wife Mirka?

Roger Federer won his first French Open trophy on Sunday and with it earned the unofficial title of greatest tennis player of all time. Federer tied Pete Sampras’ long-standing record of 14 major singles titles and became only the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam. And does he owe his latest triumph to an eerie coincidence involving his pregnant wife, Mirka?

Before Federer’s match on Sunday with Sweden’s Robin Soderling, the New York Times pointed out an interesting parallel between Federer and Sampras:

When Sampras won his 14th major title, his wife, Bridgette Wilson, was pregnant with their first child and watching from the stands in New York. On the verge of his 14th, Federer’s new wife, Mirka Vavrinec, is pregnant with their first child as she watches him in Paris.

Coincidence or clever plot to populate the earth with awesome tennis spawn?  Either way, this is a great day, and a great time in Federer’s life - a French Open win and a baby on the way. Congratulations Roger!
