Every year at CES it seems there is a new robot toy – a toy that responds to the world around them autonomously. This year the robot was called Pleo (or “Pleo 09″ as the owner was quick to point out), a robotic dinosaur.
The Pleo 09 is completely autonomous, responding completely to outside stimulus – touch, sound and sight. After holding it, it’s quite heavy (from all the motors inside) and covered in a kind of soft rubber. Each Pleo has to be “raised” up from a baby dinosaur, but that process takes about an hour and a half. After that, the kind of Pleo you get depends on how you treated your Pleo in the beginning (like any decent psycho therapist will tell you, it always comes back to the parents).
Interested? Pleo 09 retails for $349 and is available at PleoWorld.com
