The two main items on my daughter Oona’s Christmas list are Zhu Zhu Pets and a DS. I’ve been worrying that I’ll have to crush her faith in Santa as those hot little hamsters are impossible to come by right now, and the responsible side of me feels that a five year old is a bit young for a DS. Then I came across the V.Smile Cyber Pocket from VTech (on sale now for $39.99). Although it’s technically not a DS, it has all of the bells and whistles that will make Oona squeal with glee, including a flip top screen, writing pad, and stylus pen. Age appropriate for a 5-year old, this portable gaming system can easily connect to the TV for big screen action (or you can just tell your kindergartner that it’s a DS!). If you want to get really fancy, the Cyber Pocket also includes a “V.Link” that allows little players to track their scores and play extra games online via a secure website. The V.Smile Cyber Pocket plays the Smartridge games from the standard V.Smile library, which contain a lot of variety and educational content. Woot!
