I told you last April Fools Day about the most awesome sleeping bag idea ever (with possibly the best blog post title I ever thought up), and then Aaron found out that the idea was going to become a reality, and now they are getting ready to ship. Officially licensed Star Wars Tauntaun sleeping bags are now available from Think Geek, but the pre-orders are going fast, so if you’re interested you’d better order soon.
For those of you who forget the Empire Strikes Back and can stomach a nerdy explanation of why this is so awesome, here it goes: The Tauntaun is the animal that Luke Skywalker rides on the ice planet Hoth until it dies. Then Han Solo, in an attempt to keep the frozen Luke alive, cuts open the Tauntaun and puts him insde among the steaming guts and all.
The sleeping bag version has a Tauntaun head for a pillow, a lightsaber zipper pull and a liner that has “printed internal intestines”. The best part is it seems to be sized for adults, but the worst part is the price. While I have no doubt they’ll sell a lot, $99 for a sleeping bag definitely puts it outside most sleeping bag budgets.
Then again, didn’t I mention how the lightsaber zipper pull opens up the sleeping bag to reveal the Tauntaun’s intestines?
Tauntaun Sleeping Bag, on pre-order right now from ThinkGeek.com for $99 (limit of two per customer).
