For fans of the Wooberry line of dolls, there’s now a children’s book called Poppy’s Pants. The creator, Melissa Conroy, has included her off-beat looking dolls as characters in the book.
(Read a past review of the Wooberry dolls)
Published by Blue Apple Books, this is a charming story about a little girl named Penelope and her love of sewing. Penelope notices a hole in her grandfather’s pants and decides to mend them with aquamarine thread. The story rings true to the author’s childhood, since she too used to repair her dad’s pants.
At the very end of the story there’s a postscript written by her dad, Pat Conroy!
The pages of this picture book is full of illustrations mixed with photographs. It took me a couple of readings to fully enjoy the story. However, I think it’s entertaining enough for preschoolers and older kids.
